O.k. so the first one sells for £155 what about the guys who lost out The £150 £145 £140 bids and so on
I think you can be sure a second pole wont make a lose.
Why then did the first pole not have a brush as it came with it.
Answer they are going to sell the brushes a later date and make even more profit.

If you look on advance search ,you will find that he sold an identical pole on the 15th june for £155.00. Definately shill bidding .I wonder if gardiners have sold 2 identical poles to same customer? It wont happen that often i bet.

It's all very fine saying there's shill bidding going on but at the end of the auction there still has to be a mug who is not one of the shills who buys it.  And the seller would have to be able accurately to judge what the mug's genuine top bid might be.  I know there is a trick or two around to find someone's top bid, however, the mug/end buyer still has to be bidding in the right region.

If the top bid is from a shill, he's just paying 10% of the top bid each time it doesn't sell to a real person.

so after selling his first one on june 15th , he then goes and orders and recieves another one to put up for auction a week later? Gardiners are out of stock at the moment and i bet there where out of stock last week as well.

So now he has sold 2 poles within 2 weeks at £155 and £187  both without brushes and goosenecks which come as standard. these poles retail at £132 inc delivery . One mug buying at the price maybe, but 2 people ? unless it is the same person and he has bought them both  ;D ;D

And there you have it.  Gardiners are out of stock, and if someone wants this particular pole in a hurry they may be prepared to pay over the odds.  Our friend here has anticipated a demand and stockpiled against the time when the usual supply dries up.  Now he can capitalise on his forethought and turn a good profit - in financial circles it's called dealing in "futures" - perfectly legal and respectable business practice.

He tells his 'customers' they are Gardiners poles, how hard is it for someone to look them up and find out the actual retail price?

Ps - it isn't me ;D

There are periodic threads on this subject, always expressing amazement.

About ten years ago I flirted with selling digital cameras on ebay.  I couldn't believe the prices I was seeing them going for.  So, I sold seven or eight of them.  Where did I source?  Amazon.  How hard would it have been for the ebayers to look on Amazon?  But they didn't.

Net, after all the costs involved, on cameras around the £100 mark, I typically made £15.  If I could have been bothered there was a business there to be had.  I chose not to.

People assume they are getting a bargain on ebay and seem not to bother checking elsewhere.  More fool them.  There's nothing sinister in it, just the fact that there really does seem to be one born every minute.

I have seen many one and two year old poles sell on ebay for a few pounds less than they
cost new some even selling above retail.
Its a good way to upgrade your pole to a new one every year at a minimum cost.
Worth thinking about.

£200 with postage ! Amazing that the bidders have the intelligence to find the item on ebay but not to look up the manufacturer....
