Ive had a look at GAPS water filters , not sure what to get as there is so many types?
anyone got any ideas.
When we upgraded to a 4040, I decided that we needed 20" prefilters for the volume of water they are to treat. It is imperative that the carbon block filter is changed regularily.
Gardiners have new CB/sediment combination filters (Fibredyne) in stock that have a long life span. I would still be tempted to use a seperate sediment filter, especially in our area where we seem to get times when the water is full of 'dirt'.
Your water pressure and volume is an important deciding factor when choosing either an HF4 or HF5 membrane if you haven't a booster pump. Ours is 40psi and we successfully use an HF5 membrane without a booster. It produces about 2 litres of pure to 2 litres of waste per minute. -TDS at the tap is 110 - 120 and after r/o is 2-3. I was once advised by Pure Freedom that at this pressure the HF4 and HF5 will perform equally. I opted for the HF5 to be sure. The HF5 is more expensive, but the decision must be based on water pressure, not cost.
I would only buy USA manufactured membranes as RoMan years ago did say that the Asian copies weren't as good. Whilst that may no longer be the case, USA membranes have always done us well. I would only purchase membranes from GAPS, RoMan, Daqua or similar reputable WFP suppliers. I certainly won't buy items off ebay. I'm sure there was a thread a while back with cleaners buying membranes cheap from an aquarium supplier on ebay that either were performing poorly or didn't last very long.
