Had some idiot yesterday thinking he owned the road i nearly ended up mounting the pavement so i had to do an emergency stop the idiot also stopped and got out and started throwing verbal at me so we both ended up exchanging heated words and then he looked at my van noticed i was a window cleaner and then "go get yourself a proper job",
This baffles me as to why some think window cleaning is`nt a "proper job"

I thought they were on 28k Colin + loads of hidden incentives like tax free second incomes to keep them from striking...many firemen also do window cleaning and carpet cleaning in their tax break...

I could go on further but I won't...gets my back up a lot.   By the way, I'm not picking on firemen as a whole but my pops was one and he's a prick.

I had some guy a few weeks back, (this has nothing to do with window-cleaning btw) anchor up in front of me at a junction, I was on my push-bike at the time, so much so that I had to skid to avoid him. You can do a second job/business no matter what your main employment is , the reason a lot of fireman do it is because the shift system makes it easier .
I know a bus driver whos a prick, i know a window cleaner who is a prick......... so what?

anyone who shows willing to risk there life for a fellow human deserves a little respect i think , whether thats a fireman, a soldier or a copper etc .

will you still be moaning when they are cutting from your car and giving you life saving first aid ?
or rescuing your loved ones from a fire?

I never ceases to amaze me the bull you hear from people at times .....TAX BREAK ! REALLY!

my brigade lost two firefighters  a couple of years ago , in a high rise block of flats searching for casualties.

Both had young children , and wives, and brothers and sisters , mums and dads .

28 k is cheap in my opinion .

compare that to train drivers on 45-50 k .

so what is it that gets your back up about firefighters?

Also, I personally know a few firemen who moonlight as window cleaners and they're not bad lads.

They won't answer the question of weather they earn more from thier full time job or their second "part-time" job

Nearly half of the guys on their watch have second jobs, all self-employed which is why they're so resistant to change of shift patterns...

Thats not the main reason for resistance to change of shift patterns.

A change of shift patterns is to cut jobs and save money .

When it takes fifteen minutes for a fire engine to get you when your house is on fire and people are trapped inside then maybe people will understand the resistance to it .

Especially when  everyone on that appliance is nearing 60 years of age.

What gets me is way that they were prepared to down tools and strike, when in reality they're on a good salary made excellent by shift patterns that can accomodate second jobs.  The first mention of shift patten change and all hell breaks loose.

haha im 20 years old and have a steady round, and one particular mate thinks he has the perfect job in engineering, he is a machinist wich could potentially earn around 28k a year. He likes to try taking the mick out of me for ''just a window cleaner'' however i work half his hours, earn more wage at the moment, will possibly earn more than him in the future, i have noone to answer to and retire when im about 50 hopefully. Now who is the joke on?

They were on crap money back then , less than a bus driver .
They also went to station and still responded to persons reported fires and persons trapped rtc,s.
The problem is everybody believes what they read in the paper when most of it is bull .

Train drivers are paid by private companies that are still subsidised by the government on the non profit making routes .

Win /win for the private company .
