At Iceland Foods head office in Deeside.

They were working on a very high glass atrium from a cherry picker wearing a harness cleaning trad and wfp.

What qualifications would these guys have to enable them to do this type of work.

Feel this job should at least have a quote from me as its right on my doorstep

not cheap but can do competetive against big boys as much lower cost base ..... 90 days not a problem on long term contract as money will keep coming in every 90 days.

well wasnt gonna say but between the "alright darlins" and wolf whistles from the cherry picker it didnt look too good but final straw came when the MD's secretary was given a demonstration of the extandability of a slx pole from one of the lads by putting it between his legs and extending it and closing it rather vigrously whilst his mate was shouting be careful as it was about to spurt in her direction - I left as the police were arriving

Ian, you may be surprised how cheap the large companies can be sometimes, they need to pay their staff whether they are working or not so sometimes the hourly rate will be as low as £40 for two men!!

A lot of commercial run on £10 million of PL & EL. We aren't a big company but I have, this week and about to price work for Tesco, Croydon NHS, Sainsbury's, BHS and a private estate down south.

They will need to have a certain amount of PL & EL, IPAF/PAL licenses, possibly CSCS cards and will have shown a capability to be able to do sizeable contracts.
 
It in't always about how big you are but more by the way you put across your business and their abilities. I never dreamed that we would work on the Olympic Park and I am still surprised by the phone calls I get every day!!!

Yes you can certainly wait to get paid but it is often worth the aggravation!

I did indeed used to be a window cleaner.

I had exactly the same ideals then as I have now. Chris @ Archer showed very similar attitudes on his recent postings and there are a number of other individual on the forum that I can relate to.

I always believed that there was a way to do business that could be improved on and there is an attitude required to succeed and to develop a strong & sturdy business that a lot of people overlook.

I took from my residential business an attitude that commercial clients want a personal service and that is what I give my clients.

Ian - both you and anyone else reading this post can have the works that you have watched but it is down to how much you want it, how much you are prepared to put up with (because you will be stretched further than you ever have been), ask Dave Morris, where your boundaries are, how much your family will be impacted by your decisions and how high you want to go.

Those works are for anyone but the anyone has to fulfil the criteria and be capable.

I have spoken to three different very large companies this week, I have a phone manner of confidence and I understand the requirements, even when I don't.

Offer more, be better - you will get results!!!

2 of us have just come back from a week working away in Bristol, and all 4 of us are working today on jobs in birmingham and crewe,

In 2 weeks time we are working in London for 2 days and then heading straight to exeter for the rest of the week.

Robs right, it does have a massive impact on your family life to start with, we've got well over 30k owed out now from recent works which can be very distressing at times. And then there's the staffing issues which come with the package too.

It will be worth it in the end though, we're coming along nicely and in another 10-15 years time my 2 young boys could be a part of it too if they wish.

I'm into window cleaning for the duration, this business has got to support my family for the rest of our lives.

Its not all agro though, as soon as we finish today I'm away down to our caravan in wales until monday afternoon for some proper family time. Its just a shame that the weather isnts very good..... Roll on summer!!

Rob- I have seen your lads at Croydon Health services- I'm there most days as I am still slowly winding out of full time employment. I have the van with me too so if you ever need something doing give me a shout & I'd be more than glad to help!
