this happened to me last week,    customer was out back garden, he seen me and ladders through window when i started,  i seen him looking.        he waited 10 minutes to come and tell me not to clean them as they are moving on,     i said you could have said,     he just looked bemused after he seen me cleaning them.   ok i said,   then i started to get ped off because he could have told me.      so i just soaped up the applicator  and just give his bottom windows a second soaping     but i forgot to wipe off with squeegy.      made me feel better.   i passed later and they need cleaning now/               well we are only window cleaners.    i will never clean first clean without getting paid.    i just say ill call back and clean them when they can pay.

A comment in todays paper regarding the Chris Hulme and Vickie Pryce affair mentions a saying that I had forgotten about but equally applies to us.

“While seeking revenge, dig two graves – one for yourself.”

Move on mate, lesson learned. Could've been worse, could've been £20. Just keep an eye out for him. And if you're passing late at night always knock. Just don't get angry, just enjoy yourself
A manager is generally someone who has been promoted to the position by someone else who didn't see them as a threat.
Hence all people are promoted to the level of their incompetence

I wouldn't let it go. I know life is short but we all have to have principles - you wouldn't go into your local off licence and just walk out with a 4 pack of Stella would you. In effect that's what he's done. I don't get many but I do pursue them. I've been to court twice (since 2009, so quite a lot). The first for £300 (won got it all back and my costs, eventually); second is on going - for £70 (I won in court and she's offered to pay in installments twice. I've accepted twice and she defaulted on both. Now she's applied a third time to pay by installments and i've accepted. She's paid me 2 lots of £20 to date).

The thing with the last one was she said "The cheque in the post", then the next time I contacted her to collect "I'll post it when I get paid on Friday". I gave her the benefit of the doubt as she's had some family problems - lost her Dad in an industrial accident a month before I did the job (window cleans on 2 houses and a small gutter clean). Anyway, on the court docs she states she has no cheque account / cheque book! That really wound me up! She owes me £236.70 less the 2 payments she's made. I'll get my money, eventually, but to be honest it's the principle rather than the money.

I'd never egg windows - unprofessional. I have considered an ad in the local paper - "Warning to all local tradesmen" etc.

I'd just keep on calling when you are passing.

After two broken promises to pay, I have a small slip I put through the persons door, it simply says 'Congratulations, you got a free window clean. I hope that not paying makes you feel good about yourself'.

After that, I forget all about it as it's not worth thinking about.

i wrote off a £25 job the other week.the guy is a complete arrogant numpty.he wouldnt give me his number and he was never in half the time, wouldnt send cheque, wouldnt pay online.when i eventually caught him in he had no money!

he also accused me of not cleaning half the windows when i know full well i cleaned all of them.yes he still owes me £25 but i know i will never see it so ive wrote it off and ill never go back.

id been cleaning these windows for 4 years previously for the last owners who were good solid customers and good payers.

its just not worth the stress and time spent trying to chase the money.luckily this sort of thing is very rare on my round as i can usually sniff out a messer very quickly these days! ;D ;D ;D ;D

best wishes

Daz do you know his name?

You could send him letter before action from thomas higgins solicitors £2.20

He'd pay I bet ;)

You might be able to find his name on zoopla on property when he moved in.

Lee.

Read all the answers above and to be honest have tried them all, barring the super glue,.

You are not going to get paid, you clean next door, just soap up his windows and forget it, if he says anything about it just ignore him, it wasn't you.

Really p me off these peeps.

Then move on.

not worth the effort to chase £8-00 just keep calling on him when you do the neighbours eventually you should get the money and if not just take great pleasure in watching his windows get dirtier and dirtier, i had a customer that owed me £30 she was a middle house in a row i did, it took ages to get the money some 7 months later wont clean again, wrote letters called round gave her a number to call would take cheque card cash plant pot out the front??? Lol
dont be consumed by the odd non payer our industry is full of it as much as it baffles me even people that know a week in advance your coming and they know the night before and then say after youv cleaned for an hour can i pay you next time !!!!!!!!!!!! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

At what point do I phone him and say 'look, fully appreciate your situation, but I want my money?

Did you try that before you threatened to kick his door in?

If its local just go and knock ..... my favourite time used to be 8am on a Saturday morning.

Tell him you got family problems as cant feed the kids cos not getting paid

Fully agree.... As a matter of principle he should pay you.... Or Sunday morning 9am....  Just passing and thoughtbyounwould save him a trip to yours!!!!
