Do you do separate risk assessments for each residential job ?
« on: February 26, 2013, 03:45:08 pm »
Hi

Just wondered what everyone else does regarding risk assessments for residential window cleaning.

Do you do one for each residential job
A general one for residential window cleaning
Do you just not see the point.

Regards Paul

Yes.

A seperate risk assessment and method statement for each residential job. I bundle it up and include in the bundle my liability insurance, employees liability, proof of insurance of property worked upon, crb certificate, cscs number for each employee, driving license, birth certificate and national insurance number.

Can never be too careful these days.

Do you employ more than 5 people? If yes then you do. If not then you are not required to but it is good practice to have  a generic one available.

How does a generic risk assesment suffice ? I can't see as it does. You may as well not do one.

firstly i think this is over kill
secondly surely the environment around a residential property can in most cases be quite fluid in that it is or can be changing all the time..so do you do a R/A  every time you pull up to a house (fill in a form?)
thirdly, surely common-sense  is your risk assessment, you see a problem you adapt to it

Your generic RAMS has your basic policy plus the phrase "A dynamic Risk Assessment is performed before commencing any work"

This means you stop and look and see what may be a risk and adapt accordingly.

Our quote form has a risk assessment. When we price a house a risk assessment is done and filed. It takes only a couple of minutes to complete. Basically looking for hazards evaluating them (something common sense would have you do anyway) but also writing it down.

Accidents happen. The point or a risk assessment is to reduce the chances of an accident and the severity if/when something goes wrong.

It is not difficult.

You employ 3,000,000 Highland marauders. You need to.  ;D

I would hope the discount is equivalent to the loss of time/earnings spend assessing an entire round over 3 weeks.

I would bet the time would have been more profitable spent cleaning a few windows.

It's going to take more than cleaning a few windows to cover the cost of a law suit if there is an accident and he gets sued for not having done risk assessments.
