I don't have a electric point close to my van for a over night heater so what are my options

I was wondering if anyone has used a green house heater in the past

or is it best to spend £500 upwards on a overnight gas heater

Was a lad selling a propex for £300
Not so long back

Gav do you use the propex heater if you do what are the running costs on average 

I have got to get it sorted before next winter but not sure what to do and how far to go, If i have a propex heater would i still need a water heater as well to keep me working in the cold.

A Propex gas heater is an air heater so would work in the same way as an electric radiator. It warms the air inside the van to a preset temperature and will switch on when the temperature drops and switch off once it reaches that temperature. If its set to a couple of degrees above freezing it will stop the water freezing in your system.

It will not heat your water.

Yeah i understand the propex is a air heater but to be honest the only issues i have had this winter was the hose reel and pole hose freezing so propex would solve this problem.

But it would be nice to have a hot water system too 

Need to decide and quick only 10 months till the bad weather gets here.

Yes it would solve the problem, but then so would bringing your hose reel and poles into the house each evening in the cold weather.

Nat Jones was trying the fix up a thermostat to trigger his wfp pump to switch on when the temperature dropped to a preset low. The water flowing through the heater would trigger that to fire up; warm water would flow through the hose reel and back into the tank. It would switch off when the temperature rose. The warmed water in tank would act as a simple heat store/radiator and keep the van from freezing up.

But to do something like this he needed a very accurate temperature probe and a heater that was fitted with a roof vent to exhaust outside the van.

Paraffin heaters are just horrible. We had one in the greenhouse for a while and hated it.  The stink and leave soot everywhere.

However, if you burn fuel inside a sealed closed vehicle (mine's pretty well sealed, as might yours be) it'll produce a lot of water vapour, so your van will be running in it in the morning, plus it'll run out of oxygen.  If it runs low on oxygen the one in the link will turn itself off to prevent a build up of carbon monoxide.  To stop that, you'll have to leave the van slightly open.  You'll still get a lot of moisture inside, though.

Have you thought of "renting" someone's driveway?  I pay a neighbour £25 a month though the winter.  I run a fan heater form one of their sockets through a plug with a meter in it and I pay for the electricity I use.  They are happy, I am happy.

Gav how hot does the outside of the propex get when it's on would it need to be mounted to metal or would plywood be ok ?

Before running any gas heater in a empty van check with your insurance
to see if you are covered.
I cant see you being covered if the van were to catch fire or explode and a
member of the public got injured.
Also check if its legal on the public roads.
