Thermoplastic tiles - can they be cleaned?
« on: January 30, 2013, 08:18:37 pm »
Ive had a call from the owner of some flats who says that three levels have thermoplastic tiles, which are grubby. I think he said they were either laid in the 60's, or were all the rage then, I cant remember.

I do clean Amtico/Karndean, and tiles and grout with my SX-20, but does anyone have any idea if I can clean thermoplastic tiles in the same way? Coz I dont have a clue!
Thanks
Benny

Treat them as vinyl. Look out for lifting corners because if you catch it will tear part of the tile off. A large percentage of these tiles contain white asbestos as a binder but that shouldnt be a concern if you are just cleaning them.

Your SX isn't the best tool for the job.

A good scrub with a floor pad first would be best.

As John says Pre-inspect for areas that are lifting.

They are one of the easiest floors to clean / maintain.  Scrub off using a black or brown pad and alkaline chemical then apply Emulsion floor polish.
