As i appear not to be getting any satisfaction from the more expensive vac motors from the manufacturer as originally supplied with my machine, i was thinking of putting in something cheaper if such a thing exists, does anyone no were i can get a cheap 1500w 3 stage motor without the flange,

i would normally never go for cheap imitations but as the £200 ametek ones are going after about 100 hours  cant see the point in throwing good money after bad

Seamus if you look after vac motors correctly they should last a lot more than 100 hours!

Where do you keep your machine at night (be honest)?
Do you use anti foam and if so how much do you use?
Do you run your machine without the hoses on for a few minutes after every job?

One thing i've considered is if a machine is stored in a warm atmosphere (indoors/heated van etc then taken into a colder atmosphere, or vice versa, it stands to reason you may get condensation. During colder months I run the machine with the waste tank lid off before I start work for 5 minutes. If a machine is stored for any length of time this might explain premature motor failures. Run the vacs after storage or like me I run the back up machine for a few minutes every week just to check it's all running. Nothing worse than needing it and it does not work.

Since my first motor went after just a year, i have been very diligent in my care of machine. it is kept in my garage(where my cental heating boiler is sited every night wont even pre load van the night brfore so as to avoid getting damp even in summer, alway use defoamer both up hose and in tank and yes i run the motors after every job, i personally i feel i have done every thing poss to maintain my machine within reason, .  i have a karcher  wet dry vac that ive had for years that hasnt had a 1/4 of the pampereing this machine has and a lot more abuse and starts on the button every time. if these motors need to be maintained in a certain way the supplier should furnish us with a care guide.

I am thinking the motors may be getting too hot but but under the cutout temp.
I don't know the layout of the motor bay but can the ventilation be increased or the cooling air drawn in from outside the case with a bit of flex tube?
