New van - Buy or lease
« on: January 04, 2013, 05:35:56 pm »

I want to get a new van as the one I have at the minute it becoming a money pit, I am having to do something to it every week, at least its only costing me parts as I do the repair myself but it still adds up!

So I'm looking at a fresh new van and was wondering is it better to just buy it straight or is there benefits to going down the finance route?

Also any suggestions on what van to be looking at, im thinking a Transit this time as they are nearly bullet proof and parts are easy got and cheap.

Cheers in advance

New van
If it's interest free you usually pay an inflated price for the van.

Always do the deal for the van before stating whether your having finance or not, unless the finance rate is huge then tell them you are having finance, they'll be rubbing their hands together thinking about the commission, then at the end say you don't need the finance, the cant then renegotiate on the deal, try it its all about having the balls to take the pis5 they do when you try to offer a part x

Buy never lease if you are bolting a tank in back of van it wont be a good idea to lease .

If you buy a van you can offset the capital expenditure used to purchase van against your tax bill this can be done in just one tax year

Or by  pooling that capital expenditure you can use it to reduce your tax bill over 2-3 yrs .

I also think that  any interest payed on a finance agreement for a new vehicle can be claimed back in a way and used to offset against your tax bill .

Info provided above was from my accountant not sure how it all works thats why i have an accountant but he photocopied loan  agreement and then worked it all out .

It was explained to me last April so cant remember everything .

Also mate one point to note is for my L200 truck i took out a joint personal loan with my wife so you may not need to go to bank and get a business loan and produce .

All the paperwork they want such as profit and loss and cashflow forecast , Hope this helps . Mike

Buy a new Van all the way !! Used vans are way to expensive

I got 20% discount on a brand new transit and a good deal on finance with £2000 deposit .

Better to have your money in the bank for a rainy day fund.

5years down the line its mine and I will look after it so it will last ages.

I'd say buy, have a look around at a few dealerships at what unregistered vans they have sitting on the forecourts. The discounts offered on stock vehicles over ordered are huge.

Another idea. Give consideration to vans like trafic/vivaro/primastar, skidoo/expert/dispatch. For essentially one van you have 3 different dealers to get the best deal. Theses vans have come a long way compared to a few years ago and to be honest are well worth considering compared to a transit. Weight wise as well they are up to the job. Some transits have a low payload.

Simon.

I personally wouldn't take finance over 5 years,of course it could be down to affordability, but better trying to pay it back quicker as there is less interest to pay

I got a new van (new shape movano) cheaper than a 2nd one, you will have to barter down the price as they will start at the retail price, I saved thousands of pounds, as used car/van market is high as no one is buying new! and new sales are down by 25%

Simon.

And if you are looking at a Transit, they will have thousands to move at factory because of the new model coming through.

Don't jump at their best deal for today only sales pitch.

i have just bought a brand new van, got it from a fiat dealership 9945+vat brand new with 6 miles on the clock,

if you can then do it, the 2nd hand vans i've seen are always overpriced, you dont know how they have been treated usually not well,

Really? Is there such a thing as 0% finance? Ever heard the saying 'everyone has to get paid?'

I bought a 61 plate traffic last year on finance - some good deals if you can play em off against each other. Good luck

Been to a couple dealers to see a new Transit and a Traffic, dealers are really trying to push the finance route on me (im guessing they make more £'s that way), told the Ford garage I was buying straight and after quite a bit of haggling and banter I was able to get a few grand of the list price nearly to easy!!!

Still undecided really more on what van to go for, wasnt really impressed with the Transit tbh, the Traffic was a lovely drive but they do have a bad reputation
