The way I see things going on here it looks to me that sometime in the future anyone who hasn't done a health and safety course will be black listed as breaking the law.
Anyone else see this coming?

Not sure the forum owners have any intention of black listing clean it up users for not going on a H&S course  I do hope I'm not wrong

i have found it usefull to have a wfp training cert, local housing association could only get work if i had training,so opend a few doors,but must say training was not that good

No I meant the industry in general. Electricians, boiler servicers etc can't do their jobs without qualifications. I can see us being forced down the same route unnessesarily in my opinion.

Yes, Impact43 are already scaremainering! These idiots are making shed loads of money & making things unnecessarily more difficult for this industry! Bugger off to 'em I say, go stick it where it's actually needed!

The danger for us is that when the hse / government want to look at the way things are done, they might just speak to Mr Willis and his sidekick Washout and we will be stuck with only one option and that will be go on the impact course

I've done the courses from M&S. Them £10 meal deals are cracking value but you have to eat them on a flat roof.

Actually, you say this like it's a bad thing.  Just think of all those window cleaners who are too set in their ways or to daft to attend a course.  Of course, little old Mrs Smith from No 73 will still have her windows cleaned by her elderly window cleaner and his oily rag, but businesses may become even more health and safety aware.

I'm only small cheese, but I have got a few nice jobs purely on the basis of having a WFP system and being able to cobble together a risk assessment and method statement and provide proof of insurance.

So, if you're prepared to change, this would be excellent.

However, I can't see it happening, and I have my tin foil hat anyways.

I've just done my risk assessment and method of walking to go out the front door.

I should be ok if I remain vigilant and constantly assess and re-assess the relevant risks as an integral part of the ongoing walking experience.

I have attended the Impact 43 course.

We have got an estate of 1940/1950's houses that were built with joining washrooms and the only way to clean the backs and side window is over this washroom roof.

We haven't found an issue on the roof as it is concrete, but we have been caught several times positioning the ladder on the other side from the top. Common sense told us they we have a safety issue here long before we attended the Impact course, especially with wind, damp and sloping ground/concrete on the other side.

The original post was about the withdrawl of funding for H&S and their new charging scheme to make themselves self funding. Are they going to chase errant window cleaners for flouting the regulations as they see them? Hardly. They will focus on the big companies where the money is as  the chance of getting £2000 from a window cleaner to pay a fine is rather remote IMHO.

However, I would also think that an odd window cleaner will be in trouble if an H&S inspector happens to be  at the right place at the wrong time (for the window cleaner).
