« on: October 15, 2012, 07:14:52 pm »
For anyone who uses these, can you give your views on them and tell me,
Are they suitable for trade use?
Who are the leading manufacturers/suppliers?
Durability?
Cost?

I got a set from maplins that I use for the odd flat roof and hopping gates.

They seem fairly sturdy for what I use them for but I wouldn't  wanna be using them all day trad .

i bought some of ebay 60 quid, they were sturdy but wernt much use for window cleaning. the 3.8 m ones wrent quite tall enough, i had to stand them up straight and hang on to the window cill, hard work.

NO NO NO,  occasional use only  i got a set and find them heavy and awkward, especially for lifting over garages, when possible i use my A ladder and climb over.  or still use my normal ladders for when do my little bit of trad.  jp   :)

They are telescopic, Had one in the garage for ages, too small for 1st floor and I dumped the two flat roof jobs which i used it for. Dont envisage using it again. They are quite heavy and keep your fingers to the side not inbetween the rungs! no i havent trapped them!

My opening post should have been worded better,I have no intention of using these as trad ladders,I use WFP.I was trying(and failing)to ask if they are trade or DIY ladders.

These are not the type I was thinking of,I remember seeing telescopic ladders which were small and compact and it looked like each rung was telescopic.Anyone got a link?

I got some from homebase (£200) but found them too short to get to some flat roofs so make sure there high enough for your jobs

i have (had) a set of these
 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TELESCOPIC-LADDER-ALIMININIUM-3-2MTR-NEW-/170925459762?pt=UK_H_G_Ladders_RL&hash=item27cbf38932

and are fab for the odd access onto flat roof's or inspection work but not for working off - easy to store in the van
etc..

but i used and abused mine using them for more than intended when cleaning conny roof's and now several rungs
do not lock into position - they lasted around 10 months

try for a better quality set and always go for the 3 meter length

Thanks for the replies,I think I am going to go for the xtend & climb ones as they seem to be decent quality.£150 from midland ladders or there are a few on Ebay that I may bid on
