Hi Phil

Google can take weeks before you get near the first page, its all about your seo score ,keywords, meta tags etc...Go on to Whois (domain tools website) and tap in your domain name this will give you your score for each section.

My website is a 1&1 website (basic) been listed for about a month now.On first page now.
Also try and get yourself on Google maps this can help your website get read more by google.

Hope this little bit can help you out mate.

When the majority of carpet cleaners become experts in SEO you realise it's not where the advantage is anymore.  ;D
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

Get your leaflets out for a starter mate..

You should be getting work with your dry fusion set up.

It would be worth getting a decent site done as it would hopefully bring in extra work for you .

I know you are and the ideas everyone is making are all valid.

My point is major competitive advantage comes from knowing things and applying them to your business that hardly anyone else does.

It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

I agree and Phil has an advantage that a lot do not... He has a dry fusion system that he is licenced for, and as such has a unique selling point that a lot of us do not...

Even me who only LM clean... I do not have dry fusion..

So that should be in big letters

people buy features and benefits.

The feature is a unique point.. (customer cares less about this) but how does it benefit the customer..

eg:

"we have the unique dry fusion system...... This means that your carpets are clean, fresh and most importantly DRY before we even leave the house" (provided you give us a cup of coffee at the end...

I am sure that there is only so much SEO that can be applied to websites (what I know about computers and t'internet you could write on a stamp and still have space for my CV)

all the SEO companies must be doing the same thing... same keywords etc... So where do we go from here??
I don't know...

just musing aloud really..

sorry

 ;D ;D

Honestly Phil your on the wrong site/forum for advice on SEO take a look at most of the carpet cleaners websites on here all they have done is buy a domain name containing the town/city they want to target eg. www.carpetcleaningmanchester.com
which is the quickest way of getting ranked highly on Google.
It also means that you will need multiple domains for each town you want to target. Which can be a real pain to manage especially if you want to keep your website updated with fresh content. I did exactly that when i first started but now i just concentrate on my main website which is my actual company's name. It's now ranked highly for every town and city i have targeted from just the one website which is so much easier to manage.
It' harder to do to start off with. But in the long run it will save you loads of time and hopefully a bit of Money.

To me that means failure. If you are number 1 you are still fourth on the list thanks to adwords revisions and the size of the box drops most page 1 results below the fold.

We've had a good run with SEO for 3-4 years but it's old hat now.

Yep.

Up until recently I had a sixteen item list for just on page SEO before I did anything else.

If I used it now I'd get pasted by the latest alghorithm.

I don't see large comparison sites worrying about SEO. They just pump money into real world advertising. They are effectively, Google proof.

Just because you have a website, it does not mean you have to worry about promoting it exclusively on line. Why be totally dependent on the whim of a newly graduated maths genius?
