My lads were sitting in the van having a cuppa yesterday waiting for a shower to pass.
They were parked on a small road but safely to the side with plenty of room for cars to pass.

A car coming from behind decided he had enough time to get past before a ford ranger coming from ahead got there so he floored it. He was wrong!

The girl driving the ford had to jump on her brakes, lost control, smacked into the car then t-boned into the side of my van. My lads were very shaken but un-hurt thankfully.

Looking at the damage I am sure the insurance company will write it off so I am not best pleased.

I thought everything in the van had escaped damage but as I am writing this one of my guys has just informed me that either the pump or the varisteam is screwed. I guess from the impact as it was mounted right were the truck hit.

We have been running bang on schedule for well over 8 weeks now, which is unusual as we are normaly a few days late when things hold us up. I thought it was too good to last

Not a prayer. This could take months.

You will be within your rights to hire a van and do whatever you need to in order to get back up and running.

It may be that you hire one, get your tank etc transferred over and run as best you can like that. Get repairs done on your own van and all this will be claimed back. You have to keep your costs to a minimum, but you will sue the third party for 100% of these.

Depending on your insurance you may find you have to pay up front, then claim back. Obviously go through your insurance if you can, they'll 'help' you and then sort the claim from the third party.

The trick is to get straight on the case, delays now just grow and grow.

Someone bumped into our car the other day, next day the other insurance company had sorted us a hire car out...the next day theyd taken our car to be fixed. We had hire car for couple of weeks then they dropped it off all repaired...and picked up the hire car. No hassle to us what so ever.

Hope everyone was insured eh? Not much chance of that in Bradford though. I read in the news that 50% of vehicles there aren't insured!!

After loads of phone calls I seem to have got things sorted.

My van is a definite write off so will have to wait to see what kind of offer they give me.

Meanwhile I have a rental being sorted for as long as I need it. not sure yet what i am getting but hopefully will get it sorted and here by tomorrow.

I guess i will have to start trawling the sales to find a replacement. I don't want to spend much as the one I am replacing was fully paid for so never cost the business anything.

Any ideas as to what would be good?

It needs to carry a 650l tank plus gear for 2 men.

Suggestions on a post card please.

A Relay would have the space and payload, plenty of them about, loads of spares and reasonably priced. Also badged as a ducato and boxer I think.

They are good vans but huge, I need it for local domestic work, is there something a bit smaller?
