It really doesn't make any difference, I don't know why you all get so bothered about it. She doesn't want her windows cleaned - fine! They are her flippin' windows she can do as she likes.

OK if she turns out to be a right waste of time dump her but I have customers I know its not worth going to if it looks like rain. That doesn't make them bad customers and I still take their money when they do want them cleaned. Their money looks just as good as anybody elses to me.

The object of the exercise is to make money, OK, so customers can be a bit strange and erratic at times but they are still customers

I think we all have our views on what we want ,some are bothered ,and some are not, my concern is its supposed to be nice sunshine tommorow so a perfect day for window cleaning but ,not good enough for her as it might rain in a few days ,personally it ped me off ,but I will still take the money next month unless rain is forecast.

I'd leave the customer, there's no point with an attitude like hers.

They're time wasters.  I've always dropped bad customers fairly quickly and consequently my round is full of 'good' customers (mainly anyway; I can think of one-or-two dodgy ones).

I don't mind late payers, they always pay, but the 'Not today, mate!' means 'not ever' to me.

I leave a slip  all bank details in an addressed envelope.... saying " please pay within 3 days .... all pay within a fortnight..

Rain... well, you cant expect them to want them cleaning when its banging it down... no matter what you tell them,

luckily its only an odd one who has said .. leave them in this weather.

its all good, ...  ;)

What d'you think I've been every day for the last four months? Says I.

You had to be there to be honest. What a stupid woman.

Take no crap. Especially if you employ guys. If people think they can get away with picking and choosing then they will and your daily takings can be seriously effected. Nothing worse than being a few hundred short on your day with a few vans out on the road

Well I'm not,I hate it when there in and watch me clean and I end up waiting 2/4 weeks for payment as they don't like removing money from pocket at the time,so as a result a least a positive from my business 95% all pay whithin 7 days .

NOW THATS SOMETHING DIFFERENT!!! And my number 1 bugbear about this job. When the customer is home and then decides to go out without attempting to make payment!  >:(

The 7 days grace I give to make payment is for when I clean and no one is home, If a customer is home I expect them to make payment. Saying that it hardly ever happens but really winds me up when it does!

But do you let them no your coming to clean that day?

No I dont let them know when im coming and fair enough if they are running late for an appointment or whatever, but anyone can write a cheque in 2 mins flat.

I dont mind if they ask if its ok to forward a cheque, im talking about jumping in the motor and driving off without a word about payment..which again is slightly different i suppose

I see it differently myself.  My bills state payment required within 14 days.  If they do that I'm fine - whether they are in or out when I clean.  Unlike some customers who unilaterally decide to pay me every third clean and eventually send a £70 cheque or similar.  It's nice when I get it.  Not so nice when cash flow is tight.  If every customer paid me exactly 14 days after the clean, I would be better off cashflowise than some paying me straight away and others leaving it for months.

I have a few customers where I wait 2-3 weeks to get paid by bacs or cheque.
Usually this is because they get paid monthly and are in the habit of paying regular bills on or just after pay day.

LEE, found that post you meant.

getting more customers solves most problems.
short of money? get more customers.
getting PITA customers? get more customers.
customers moan about you working in bad weather? get more customers.
work not compact enough? get more customers.

when you do get more customers and one or two decide not to pay you on time or claim they did pay when you know they didnt then you replace them with more customers.

when you reach the stage where you cant take any more customers on then dump some who are PITA and replace with good customers. keep doing this for a time and you will have a load of well paid work and very little to moan about on here.

then you can go onto the non related section of this forum and take the micky out of Tosh and the rest of us on there. 8)

I'm amazed by a lot of this. Dump custies if they are messers and don't want a clean in the rain, charge 50% extra if its 8 weeks not 4, a late payer is someone who pays more than two weeks out etc.

Guys we are in a service industry - it means we get paid to look after our custies. Sure, it's annoying if you are out working and they don't want a clean when it looks like it might rain. It happens to me and I get peed of, but I have to accept it. It's rare to be honest and if this is the most amount of stress they'll be in this job, well it's better by a mile than what I used to do let me tell you.

I don't clean in anything more than light rain. Even drizzle and i'm back indoors. Why, because i'm in the customer service industry, not window cleaning. Even if custies don't turn you away they don't like paying for it and begrudge you turning up. I agree it's a PITA, but that is business - just smile and take their payment next time knowing you are in the best job there is. And get more custies so it doesn't matter.

As for 2 weeks and they're classed as a late payer, well you are in dream world. What if they are on a 2 week holiday? Get real. I have 21 days as a standard and only start calling people then.

50% more for an 8 weekly clean rather than a 4 weekly! Are you having a laugh? Sure some might need more effort if they are on a busy road, next to the sea / seagulls, but most don't take 50% longer - we all know this is true.

Generally I drop custies if they are genuinely poor payers, don't leave the gate open even when I've phoned the night before (but allow a one-off every now and again), there is dog poop around and they have promised to clean up for you, they "not today" you more than twice in 6 months.

I'm looking at my windows now and I haven't cleaned them for 3 weeks or more. They are spotless because of all the rain we've had. I wouldn't want to pay either. The sooner we all realise that we need to exceed custies expectations the better off we'll all be. Just be glad you've got the best job there is going I say.
