Hi guys,

I'm just wondering if anyone has had lead peel off with very hot water.  I've noticed on just a few jobs that when the water is scolding, the slightest push of the brush and some of the lead comes off.  It doesn't seem to happen if the water is luke warm and as I say it isn't on every leaded job.

My theory is that pure water is supposed to be the strongest solvent known to man, so if you heat it up and make it stronger it will dissolve the glue behind the lead.

Doubt that it would dissolve glue. What's more likely to happen is that the glue has already failed but because the lead gets warm it becomes soft and easily folds back or comes off the glass. Happens to a place I do. Lead was already getting rubbish with cold wfp, but with hot or warm it does seem to happen more. Stick on lead, just like stick on upvc bars are just cheap windows.

i always turn my heater down onto the lowest setting when doing a house with leaded windows, i also switch to the xtreme black soft brush as in the past with hot its much easier to pull lead off,

i dont turn it up so much that the water is scolding imo its not needed unless your cleaning a pure green conny roof/guttering job

The heat is softening the glue and allowing the lead to lose adhesion.

Heating pure water makes it more acidic. The hotter it is the more acidic.
