Suppose alot of you know this but i didnt so i thought i would share.

I had a customer ring on sunday saying we'd scratched their sills, as usual on the defensive i said, i cant see how we've done that. Anyway, went do and sure enough we had, i could see from the patterns it was the edge of the brush when cleaning the bottom of the windows. Wasnt so much a scracth more of a black scuff but it didnt look good! The frames were very old, the black seals in the windows are brown and brittle.

Anyway. Went and got some Cif, started buffing and it did make them alot better, but someone also told me to use fine wire wool, so put some cif on the sill, buffed gently with wire wool, and they came up amazing, like new.

Wish id taken some pics, customer rang me as they were out and said "they were made up, top job thank you for sorting that" nice cheap solution for something that could of cost us alot! Be careful with your brushs guys especially when cleaning the bottom part of the glass on upstaires windows. I beleive my marks were from my old vikans but i cant see this problem now with my gardiner sill brushes. I also noticed on one of the upstaires windows only half was marked, this is where i have had the brush at an angle over the porch, and the end of the brush has caught.

Good to know mate , But one thing i have noticed on some custys down stairs window sills is scratches right along the sills and i dont usually touch sills with brush as i always wipe down sills with a cloth. MIKE

Its not from wiping the sills mate, its from cleaning the bottoms of the windows and the brush head plastic touches it. Especially when using brush at an angle

thanks for that mate i might have to try that, what grade wire wool did you use?

Just said fine on the one i got...so i dont know what grade it was. But i beleive 000 is the one to get.

I had this hayppen on a few of my customers at 1st.ive now changed how i clean for this reason.
Top tip though will put some wire wall and cif in my van asap.

very fine sandpaper, do it wet and you can really do a brilliant fix on white uPVC sills/frames,
comes up new.

 As for using sandpaper, even wet!..I've heard it all now

Just curious how you managed to scratch a window sill with a scraper that is mounted on the top of a brush?  At no time should a scraper come anywhere near a window sill when correctly used and fitted.

Matt, You wont see any damage straight away it will look really nice and shiny, but after a few months, have another look and see what you think.

yeah you do have to invert the brush when cleaing anything below about knee hieght, anda scapper would defo be a problem from what i can tell!?! i hope someone can prove me wrong because i wonted some gardiners scrappers! hehehe
