finished an job today and a lady (customers mother I assumed) came out and said 'how much?' - I said £8 (underpriced for where/what it is) and she chuckled. For some reason I assumed she was laughing because it was cheap. I asked her how much she paid - she told me £3 [THREE POUND!] when I asked she said she lived in Scotland. Do folks really clean for £3 - I don't have anything on my round for £3. Lowest price is £5 for a 4 window flat and I clean 4 in a block.

our local trad guy cleans for £3 yes.  always has done and always will.

i think its insane, but he probably thinks i'm mad having a bank loan and a leased vehicle!

3 pound a job clean 10 houses finish by about 11 when the club open and drink till about four when it closes :-)

I don't know how long you've been cleaning but when a few years have passed, you've suffered multiple messers and even been bumped for the money a few times, guilt definitely takes a back seat.
I remember when I was fairly new at it I met a guy who had been cleaing for many years.  I thought he was quite cynical.  I've never gone as far as him but I do get it now.

I'm with you on this one. It's like the fact that shoplifting hikes the price of goods for everyone. Messers definitely cause my prices to be higher than they might otherwise be.

you're both right, I'm too soft, I'm happy that most work is well priced but that 8 pound job isn't (should be 10, maybe 12  )- it's at the end of an estate on its own (I don't want any more down there!), the garden is like an explosion of kids toys, generally a faff - but she pays and is from the early days knocking. Should drop really but ..... too soft

I have one where I charge £3.00 -   one ground floor window and a door - right opposite where I clean another terraced house so 10 steps away and don't have to reel out.  Should I put her price up then?

yep i have some front only properties where i charge £3 per front(3 windows and a door).these are on very compact estate work and i can rattle them off in less than 5 mins!!

i also have some one bed granny flats at £2-50 per flat(housing association)monthly cleans.i have lots of them compacted together so i still make a good hourly rate.these are in a poor area but most come out and pay me cash on the day so no collecting!!xmas tips are good on this work as well!!

at the end of the day we are all free to charge what we like for window cleaning.

this is only on small pockets of work that ive been cleaning for many years.i have lots of very well priced work as well thats makes up the bulk of my work now.

perhaps that's what she meant daz, front only and the windy has a block of them - I assumed she meant whole house as I'd cleaned the whole house

if she stay's near me there is every chance it is £3 for the whole house, I get told on no to expensive at £5 £6

I had seriously better not tell you what I charge then! But Stuart, yes I know there are window cleaners doing whole houses for £3 round where you are. But are they on the level or are they topping up their benefits?
