drought order and wfp......hows the south east coping?
« on: March 05, 2012, 03:08:19 pm »
Heyup boys and girls in south east, just wondering how your getting on with wfp and a drought order? any grief off the water board? do you trad bottoms to save water? do customers get funny with you?

I live in welsh water area, but work in severn trent, apparently they've promised no hosepipe ban for us this year. many of our customers wouldn't care bout us using water, but some used to have fits combined with nervous twitches with us half filling our bucket at their tap, and would likely frown on wfp in a drought order.

be interesting to see what adjustments, if any, you had to make. don't think we've had this topic before (recently anyway).

flippin chucking it down today!!
but i thought i would hide indoors and do some 'invoicing' ;D

Yes its a concern but will have to wait and see
There has been another thread about this, and the consensus seems to be that we wont be affected as we make 'manufactured'water and are exempt from the ban(should it come)
Playing it by ear really, coz who knows- it might just never stop raining , however I do peak at long range forecasts(somewhat cynically) and yup, looks like it might be a dry month, this coming after a dry winter thus far
We have seriously looked at rainwater harvesting and I think that we may have our hand forced, but on the upside , it will improve our green credentials with customers and waterboard alike(plus it attracts some tax breaks)

We haven't got a drought order, we haven't got a hose-pipe ban yet either. You're jumping the gun, we will have but we haven't yet. Regarding what happens once we do, this tells you all you need to know

My interpretation is that there are concessions for those who make their living who use water as a necessary part of that

lol, trucking, not windows today!

just to clarify, purpose of this topic wasn't as to whether bans affect us as businesses, but more to gauge customers and the public in general response to wfp'ers.

The only reason a drought order was issued was so that Southern Water could take water from various rivers to fill up reservoirs a bit. Without a drought order, they can't do that.

Also, they said it's better to take water from rivers now rather than later in the year as it affects the environment less.

As usuall, the newspapers and tv have been hyping it all up and not explaining things which is something they are expert at.

The chances of there being no significant rainfall in the SE between now and June is almost zero.

Kent is now suffering day 2 of non stop rain. I bet that doesn't get a mention in any papers.

take a barrel of water with you and stop using other peoples tap (I would class that as taking the P, they pay you for the job, they class water as gold.  ;)

just cracking on as usual until the water stops coming through my tap i will continue as normal, we pay enough for it, they need to invest money in more resevoirs so when we do have rain they can collect more. :)

Watch what happens when i type Southeastwater without italicising the "t"!

S'pose it would be similar with Scunthorpe! let's see ...
