that's a copyrighted 'trademark' -  same as Mc  in McDonalds and the reverse 'R' in toys are us

Iconic is a totally different word to ionics 

there's a big difference to threats of legal action for unauthorised use of copyright to sending abusive/threatening emails

Maybe I have been a bit hasty and its just someone messing about and not actually Ionics... I'll contact them tomorrow and see what they say.

As you say Iconic is a completely different word to Ionic... I know its similar, but also they are not even window cleaners they are suppliers!

I would be shocked if it was them, one your name is not thiers and 2 I am sure they have better things to be doing, it is more than likely from some person that is a little sad, maybe a little upset they are not doing aswell as you.

Philip Hanson, who owned Ionics way before Ionics was as big as it is now, used to post on this forum regularly. He always seemed a very approachable person.

I cannot see Ionics being bothered enough to send any type of email, and especially an abusive one. Why would Ionics link themselves to such gutter tactics? I'm certain if it was Ionics, it would be better written and in easy to understand English and not in that crappy way of writing.

It has to be from somewhere else.

If you read the "email" properly it is obvious it is from another wc who is mugging you off for using a name similar to ionics and then saying you wont get none of their customers by doing so.....it has absolutley nothing to do with ionics,i wouldn't ring them if i was you because you are going to make a right tit out of yourself if you do.....

I doubt that the email is from Ionics.  As has been said, I imagine that any legal threat would be just that, a legal threat without any swearing.
However, things may not be as clearcut as they seem.
Years ago, I had an Italian friend who was considering opening a pizza restaurant.  You may remember that there was a company called "Pizza Piazza" (pizza square or square pizza).  Well she was going to call her restaurant "Pizza Pazza" (crazy pizza).  Now an Italian would know instantly the difference in the words but an English person probably would not.  The legal advice she received was that winning or losing in court if Pizza Piazza reacted would be a 50/50 chance.  Even if she won it could drain her resources severely before getting the verdict and could even have to concede the case if unable to continue financing it.
It may be that the issue was in doubt because it was in England though - where most people may not be aware of the difference.  It could be that in Italy she would have got away with it as most people would know the difference.  Perhaps the same with yours.  It's England and (hopefully) most people would know the difference between "ionic" and "iconic".

BTW.  It was irrelevant in the end because she went into another business instead.
