Have you guys used the essex flange or mechanical flange to attach your heating element to your tank,i have a 500 l upright tank

I used a mechanical flange from tool station. I cut a neat hole and when fitting put silicone on each level as I fitted the washer etc making a nice watertight seal.

Fitted it a couple of months ago and it hasn't leaked at all.

No leaks whatsoever.

Went to my local toolstation today and they had no mechanical flanges in stock and told me they were tempary unavailable so wont be getting 1 of them soon.what size hold did u cut to wind it in on the plastic without a flange.did u put mastic on it when u wound it in aswell.

Exactly what I did on mine too.. been good so far, not a drop..

Did a mates van using a mechanical flange, the tank wall was too thick to get a good turn on the thread.. Ended up not using the rubber o ring and even filing some of the flange down to get a grip...

Yep so if i cut it into the tank and wind it into the plastic what size tool cutting diameter do i use ?

Use a dremel (other multitools are available), and practice on a piece of plastic first (I used an old plastic paint can lid)  then you'll have the right size hole to draw on your tank. 

Hole saws just aren't accurate enough in my opinion..

sounds simple and probably dull but couldnt you just use the flange here

Yes you can but it'll be harder to get a grip on it. However, if you can hold it, you could probably turn the immersion into it to make it tight. I've got one but I used the flange instead. If I couldn't get the flange then I'd use it.

I've got one of those on mine, but tbh I don't think it's very tight at all!

I used a load of waterproof silicone in the thread, made it slippery as owt, couldn't get a grip with any of the tools I'd lined up to tighten it!

BUT because I'd cut the hole in the tank to exactly the right size, (i.e. too small), the element cut its own thread in the tank as it went in, and not a drop so far...

Sorry to bang on but tool station do t do the flange anymore and i looked at that nut to tighten it on but it leaves like hardly any of the thread left to turn it on because of the thickness of the tank.the only sure way i can see if using a 2.25 essex flange to attach the immersion heater.if there are other threads which i have already read it doesnt mean so
Ebody hasnt tried something new like this essex flange that i will likely be trying its 40 quid but allows for the thickness of the tank.
Its all about gaining experience from others thats the whole point of this site so if i bang on or ask silly questions remember were here to help each other.
