WCW Backpack Problem
« on: January 31, 2012, 05:23:15 pm »
Hi,

I have a problem with my backpack. It could be working great one min than the flow will go down or it will splutter and just spit at the glass.

Its not the battery as it can work fine one min, not the next.

WCW said it may be the flow controller and I could send it to them to look at.

This is great in respect to customer service but this week is SUNNY and dry plus my custies will be waiting ages and I won't be earning.

I am wondering if anyone else has had similar problems?

Also thinking of just taking the flow controller out but if this does not solve the problem than WCW can refuse to fix it once they see the wires have been cut and tampered with.

Not to mention the water might fly out at 10 litres a minute???

Any advice would be greatly appreciated  :)

Regards.

Check for any loose connections or damaged cable or connections between the pump - control and battery.

Everything seems fine.

Plus I imagine a loose cable would make it stop completely or continuously splutter not do what it want when it wants.

He said its quite common for the flow controller to fail due to getting wet and it sounds like the flows being turned down than back up to full or down, full, down, full like you would expect if the battery was dying.

Cheers for your comment.

Mate i had the same problem with mine only 2 days ago, i took the  bottom off to reveal the battery ect and found that the two wires which are taped down on the battery( between the live and negative) and are taped together at the end by a small bit of tape like stuff, one of them wires had corroded slightly and had snapped although still connected now and again giving the spluttering ect, but when i wiggled it it came away.a also gave everything a spray of WD40 as there was a few bits going a tad rusty. I was well chuffed when i fixed it, so was my wallet ;D. give it a go.cheers Ian

I had a similar problem with mine, turned out to be a kink in the pipe between the tank body and the pump.

A kink wouldn't flow perfectly one minute than not the next surely? It would just have the same flow rate.

Hi Ian Kev, thanks for that I will look into the actual wires more carefully.

How old is yours may I ask?

If this isn't the problem can someone advise me about taking the flow controller out?

I am aware the old WCW backpack did not have a flow controller so hopefully it will flow out at a reasonable rate without it?

SteX, i bought my backpack last May and used it a fair bit to start with. Last week it just started spluttering, then was fine and then sometimes it would speed up and slow down and in the end just made a slight squeeking noise. You have to look really close at those wires i was on about. mine looked fine up close, but check the ends. cheers

By pass the controller, and see if it still happens, if not it sounds like the battery, have you run the battery flat at all?

I would say it acts like a dead battery when it splutters like its dying but than it can be fine for say half hour than start again. Its temperamental and has a mind of its own.

I am scared to bypass the controller in case my, well not in case. It will straight up void the warranty!

I am sure the guys at WCW aren't that anal if its just a case of some wires with electric tape on but not worth the £130 risk if you ask me???

I will look really close in the morning mate and see if I can see anything. Cheers.

Hi,

Craig and the guys at WCW have always been great when we've returned the odd item or blown up a flow controller. They will give you an honest opinion.

They even found us an old backpack charger when we lost ours. Lucky their office is on our doorstep really!

Cheers,

Huw

I can't go without the backpack for a few weeks so just bypassed the flow controller and it seems fine testing one fill.

There really was no corroded cables anywhere and no connections were loose giving a lil tug.

It emptied the 18 litres in around 10 minutes though which isn't kool. I normally fill up once per house now I guess it will be twice.

I will go test it all day today and if its fine than I will just purchase a flow controller from WCW.

Thanks for your suggestions guys and hope it goes well  ;D
