Yell.com Pushy salesman!!
« on: January 20, 2012, 03:11:38 pm »
A bloke from Yell rang me today asking me if I wanted a website for £30 a month etc. When I said I wasn't interested he just wouldn't shut up talking about the benefits etc of this so called website. I told him if I wanted then I could get it cheaper etc.
Anyway hes just gone after 50 mins on the phone with his sales chat!!

Anyone else had this?

Yes I did last week. I just let them carry on talking, it's their phone bill not mine ;)

Lol. Similar, but not 50 minutes. Do you not have a receiver button on your phone? Red button if using a mobile! Then you can cut call short at about 30 seconds.

If like my call, he ll ring you next week and pretend he has never spoken to you before - with cheaper prices.

They probably work on comission, so only trying to earn a wage, still, flippin annoying!

I've had fun with them in the past when i was starting up my bin cleaning business. Loads of phone calls etc off them and it took them a long time to take the hint that i wasn't interested. Friend of mine went with them for 12 months and had the grand total of 3 referals through yell compared with loads through his own website.

I've not had the yell website salesman yet.
But I had a woman from yell a couple of months back trying to sell me an "Enhanced Listing" or whatever they call it. She started asking me if I had capacity to take extra work on and how much extra work I wanted each month. She was trying to make it sound as if she was guaranteeing me extra work every month.
So she then turns round and says "Shall i'll order that for you then?". I think it was about £11 a month or something.
Anyway I wasn't really interested but to get rid of her I told her to let me think about it.
She phones back a couple of days later and I just ignore it and don't answer the phone.
This happens a couple of times, then in the evening I get a call from a mobile number. Its this yell bird who i've been ignoring the calls from.
She says " Oh I guesse you have been busy and thats why you have not been answering my phone calls!" Sounding like some sort of bunny boiling stalker  ???
Then she says "So i've given you time to think about it, do you want to pay for 12 months in one go or monthly instalments?".
So I says "No im not interested"  ???
She then says "Well i've ordered it now because you sounded interested".
Me "Well thats your problem not mine!".
Click and I put the phone down.
Nightmare, I wouldn't want to be the man in her life!  ;D

This ^

A simple "not interested, thanks, bye" works for me.

I can't imagine spending 50 mins on the phone to anybody, especially a salesman.
"....and it's lend me ten pounds, I'll buy you a drink, and mother wake me early in the morning."

Thing is I already advertise with them so they have an excuse to phone up. They ask if business is ok etc then say they have tools to drive even more business to me. Ie the websites etc. I did say that I already have a £200 ad on there plus I drop leaflets etc and that I don't want £1,000's worth of business just £100's.

I've noticed their number on my 1471 service a few times recently.
Previously, about a year or so ago, I instructed them to remove all my numbers from their database.  I also told them that my numbers were registered with the TPS and they were flouting the rules.  I also told them that a repetition would result in a complaint to the TPS.  Registering with the TPS should be refreshed once a year and it can take a month to get through the system.  This was done a few months ago though so they have screwed up.
One guy insisted that I listen until he finished his spiel.  When he fnished I told him that I was sitting in my van at the back end of the day and that I was cold, tired and hungry.  I then asked him if he thought I would buy from him.  The T*at offered to ring me back the next day.  My answer was a two worded one.

I had the same from Lloyds TSB, I just couldn't get the bloke off the line. He wanted me to come in for an "Account review" which meant he wanted to sell me something.

In the end I had to get quite rude with him.
