a company near where i work have been offering first cleans for free by flyposting telegraph poles and the like.they are also cleaning the odd houses that ive dumped due to them being messers/bad payers or up and over flat roof jobs that i dont wanna take on!!

on these estates i clean say 80-90% of these properties(very,very compact) and have done for over 12 years.

they turn up with 3 of em climbing up and over flat roofs to clean just one house then move on.

i charge at least 50% more for first cleans.sometimes double if they are really dirty.

do you think cleaning for free is good business practice??

I would find it hard to do a free clean.


Apart from a charity I gave them 3 free cleans and other services as a prizes at the end of next month, that's just me giving into the pot of karma


Dazmond there business model is flawed as they will need to earn money to pay the fine for flyposting   :

these are a legit company.not doleys.they clean commercial and domestic and do powerwashing.they have a few vans on the road.

I've given free cleans too, as prizes at local village fetes - and picked up ongoing cleans afterwards.

But like most people so far - if it's dirtier than average - then they pay more the first clean

When i lived by my mother in law (she is a lovely woman and im lucky to have such a nice mother in law) I cleaned her windows ..... she paid the same as everyone else did.

Can just see it now.... clean first time for free and the customer says thanks, will ring you when i want them doing again. Not for me thanks

The truth is nothing but the truth: FREE CLEANING IS JUST BAD BUSINESS.The message one is giving to your customer is my work is worth nothing that why we work free.Its more damaging to this industry as a whole. Its will only lower the tone as we need to be more professional and uplift the image of your industry.This type of action is just a sign of the ignorance one see on a daily basis. Shame on then.

YES no problem doing a free clean .... To an existing customer if they refer a friend or family space on my your windows were cleaned today slip for a name and phone number.

Worth approx 10 new customers a year and so far all have been great customers.

havent got time to do freebies. too much work waiting to be done. (says me at 1:15 pm on a friday!!) 

daz it looks like you are causing this team a problem and thats why they are trying to get more work. thats the only thing i can think why they would do stupid things like that.

Set your sights high mate.

Nevermind what they are doing, you do what you are happy with and charge what you think the job is worth.

I would never do a free clean unless one of my customers got me into more work and then i would look after them for looking after me.

The best advice i ever recieved was, always be dearer than your competitor, i couldnt work it out but believe me its true.
