Hi need help making a decision I currently have three vans and they all are fully booked. one off my guys is leaving soon I don't know whether to sell part off my round or employ someone else because I have been employing eight years now and had so many bad experiences of employing people from such as going sick, stealing, setting up on their own, and they do not doing the jobs to a high enough standard and gos as far as people turning up to my house and threatening me because I didn't pay them a bonus because they did not do enough work.

as you can see that i have had a bad experience of employing people. Is the extra money worth it what's your opinion look forward to hearing from you.

i only have one van, and cant get any one decent to help me, never mind run the van,  what about selling the crap and keeping the cream

I think you have already resigned yourself to not employing because of the experiences you have had.
If you sell i think you will have the piece of mind that your looking for. Unless you can find someone you can trust, and by the way i dont trust anyone you will have to start from scratch training them to clean to your standards and hope they dont leave and set up on their own.

Its your choice but from what you have said i think selling would give you piece of mind. Dont let any work go for peanuts

Or stay small with a van or 2.

The place in the middle is not a nice place, my staff used to have bets on who would give me a heart attack first.

I went from one to two , never had such a headache in my life , couldnt trust any staff bar one , alas hes now gone , SAJ 'S brother in law was the man but another vocation came calling , i am not meant to be a boss and i dont feel i need it either , one man band for me , mind you i am looking to work for Dave Morris again , not subbing , on the books this time , he just offered me 45k to oversee Plymouth to Exeter

Put someone on who wants to earn some dosh.

Give them an insentive almost like a parnership but they give you a percentage of everything inc running costs of the van etc.

If they dont work they dont earn. Simple.

You retain all, the clients and the van.

Say he can earn £150 a day you take 50 or 60%

He pays his own stamp and tax. Its like a franchise but not if you know what I mean.

Nothing like the insentive of ££££. Its a win win senario

Talk to your accountant see what he/she thinks

I thought of that but my accountant said if they don't pay that tax and work solely for me i would be liable for the tax and i no that none off them would pay there tax.

Whatever you decide to do, make sure you do it to suit you and your lifestyle. As David said do what makes you happiest.
It will not be a step backwards if you do let some work go, it will be a step in the right direction of where you want to be........... if you then find out that this is not what you wanted, you can always rebuild.
I know where you are coming from, about hiring staff believe me, and you have to sit down and really think about what it is doing to you and your lifestyle.
Do I regret getting rid of vans, not employing and selling up the window cleaning side of the business.....no I don't, not one iota
