I wouldnt trust a standared jack HOWS about you ?

Standard van jack should be fine. Mines rated to 1750kg and you'd only be lifting one corner of the van,...

surely the jack is designed to bare the weight of the vehicle fully laden?

Had this happen to me,stripped threads on my jack,had to dump the water..and i wasnt over loaded.

Standard jack would be ok So long as you weren,t on a slope Then use a trolley jack and chocks

Are you sure about this nathanael , did you purchase the jack yourself or did it come with the motor you got ?
My mate got a puncture today in a expert van loaded with 400 ltrs of water it was front wheel drivers side, flat 400 ltr tank so the weight was spread about .
Jacked up the van and the jack was stripped of the threads , just like lozsing mentioned .
My mate ended up having to call the AA .
He was told that the jack would only be suitable if the van was empty .
This could happen to anyone of us at any time .
CHECK YOUR JACKS YOU NEVER NO WHEN YOU NEED THEM .

Done it myself fully loaded - cleaned 4 windows on my first  job then noticed it - with the standard jsck out of the tool kit

Yes indeed.  I did post a warning about this a few years ago.  I got a puncture while my Trafic was fully laden.  I was changing the front wheel when the brake disc was suddenly connected with the road - six inches from my fingers.  The jack supplied with the Trafic had failed.  I'm astonished that H & S allow them to supply such sub standard equipment.  I think the rating was 3.5 tonnes so it should have been OK as the GVW is 2.9t.  I went a bought a trolley jack (think it's a 5 tonne rating).  Typically I've never had a puncture since.  I suppose that when using any jack it's important to ensure that fingers are kept well clear.

I had one a couple of years ago and used the standard jack. A new spike of some farm machinery went through the side wall of a new tyre making a 2" hole

What you mean is you were on a farm and you drove into something?!! 

Im shocked that this could be the case, i have standard scissor jack in my van, and assumed it would be rated to the maximum the van can carry.  Ah still, im with the RAC anyway, and unlike Roy i use my mirrors when reversing

I know I would have a problem straight away. I have a towbar on my Relay and the only way of getting the spare wheel out is the jack the rear of the van up so the spare wheel carrier will clear the main drawbar section so the spare will slid out. This is a common problem on a lot of vehicles with towbars. When the van is fully laden, its worse.

I use a trolley jack at home, but this is a situation that I need to consider soon. I have had 2 flats and they both happened overnight. The previous owner put new tyres on, but the fitter didn't replace the valves - both perished and 'failed' within a few days of each other.

I got a puncture the other day in my transporter with nearly 500lts in the back.the puncture was in the back 2 i just get the spare ready before starting jack it up slide the 1 i take off under van for safety then put the other 1 on asap.i got a 2 ton trolly jack it did the job but i was super quick.
