Falling VAC
« on: December 02, 2005, 06:59:40 pm »
The vacuum on my Extracta DX seems to be softening (according to the guage). Probably used it for, say, 100 hours (I have another machine as well, but without guage so there's no indication).  This seems a little strange - anyone else had this effect in such a short a time, or is there a simple answer ??  I don't want to change the motor unnecessarily.

Check for leaking pipes causing  loss of suction. Also the seal around the waste tank lid, or dump valve, or the screws that hold the handle onto the machine can come loose.
When a vac motor goes, it goes BANG ! They dont just lose a bit of power.

Hi Pete,

Totally agree with what Chris has said, just two things to add.

1/ Is the vac filter clean.
2/ I have seen the vac motor inlets/ impellors almost closed up with debris but normally after a lot more hours usage.

Many Thanks Friends

Today I had a good look around the machine, cleaned around the lid seal and fully rinsed the foam cover to the VAC inlet.  Indeed, the suction at the vac-lead socket on the machine now feels as good as I can remember (I'll consider this more important that the guage reading, which could be theoretical !).  Perhaps in the end the problem was/is down to my imagination - bearing in mind the importance of leaving the carpet reasonably dry at the end of the cleaning process.  One quick job today left the carpet very dry !

Again, thanks for your contributions, it's good to know others are around to advise.

with the motor running and the inlet sealed off the gauge should read between 9 & 10   Hg on the Dx.
