Hi Alex

I had this end clamp snap on the SLX today, and though that you ought be be made aware of it, in case it's happened in other cases.  It's as if the clamp has a weakness in it.  Do you think it has something to do with the fact that I am using one of the quick-change connectors in the end?  The brush is the fairly stiff one you sell.

Looks like user error to me.

As you have pulled the quick release out you haven't kept it straight.

If you really think it is a production fault you should have contacted the supplier first rather than post.

Give the Office a call and they can help sort this out for you.

The only way that this clamp could snap in half like this is if the aluminium fitting had not been fully inserted during use. If it used with the alloy adapter fully in then the carbon tube takes most of the strain instead of the nylon clamp. Or it could be that it was pulled sideways whilst removing the fitting at some point.

In any case give us a call and we can send a replacement clamp out to you for free, no problem.

Maybe it was the alloy insert bit was not far enough in - quite a bit was showing.

I don't mind paying for a new one, that's ok, thanks.  And I posted here as I couldn't find your email althgouht I know it ahs been put in  a few posts.

Edit: The more I think about it and look at the photos, this has probably happened indeed because the ally insert was not far enough into the carbon tube.

I did this regular with my facelift pole as there was no positive stop. I would extend too much and snap!

I don't think I over-extended, I just think maybe the pressure was just that incy wincy bit too much - it was just a first clean on a conny roof, so maybe it just couldn't take it?  Anyway, I didn't know that the ally insert could go any further into the pole tube.  I reckon that's what did it.

I'm actually thinking of ditching the interchangeable one now, and just having the same brush on both SLX's.  Does anyone know what you have to do to fit a brush permanently on the end of the tube?  IS there another insert that goes inside the pole?  I suppose there must be.

I saw the pics before i read Alex reply,and imediately thought that the alu fitting had not been pushed in deep enough, causing strain on the plastic clamp.
They can be a tad stiff, getting them in first time,but they will go fully in, if you twist and turn with a bit of force

There are two options for use on the top of the SL-X quick release poles. You can use the Resi-Necks (Type1) which are an all-in-one version of what you currently have and have a 12cm plastic shaft that slides inside the clamp and top section. Alternatively you can fit a Carbon-Fibre gooseneck which also slides down inside the top section and clamps in position.

I think I'll do the former, Alex, and fit this 'Resi-necks' thing, (never heard of that before) and buy another soft brush and keep the two SLXs with the same brush - I tried the stiffer brush all day today and it didn't like leaded glass - kept catching and was a bit too aggressive really.  It's been fine for the occasional clean on large sashes.

It's only by experimenting that we find out these things.  Thanks for the info on the 'resi-necks' thing, Alex.

Resi-Neck is (in Gardiner-speak)  short for 'residential gooseneck' and is a plastic adjustable neck similar to what you have currently but with an all-in-one shaft for quick release poles.

For everyone's information, Alex has been as good as his reputation would suggest, and offered a free number one clamp and resi-neck.  Considering that the problem seems well to have occurred because the alloy insert was not as far into the pole tube as it could have been, this is pretty good service, is it not?

For anyone who's interested, I've decided to dump the quick release version and buy another soft brush, as the stiff one I found somewhat agressive on sashes and postage stamps.  My error was in buying one SLX with a fixed head and one with the quick release mechanism.  That was not such a bright thing to do.  With this outcome, I can rest assured that the end of the pole is stronger and it does away with the pole hose being crushed by the thread on the angle adapter.

I`ve read this about 6 times now and am none the wiser. Hope this helps you say!
The picture speaks a thousand words,you attached the brush with quick release angle adaptor to the top bit of the clamp only and then wondered why it snapped in two with pressure applied.The clamp is only for gripping what is inserted into the pole and you never got that far .You mention it wasn`t as far into the pole as it could have been.Are you having a laugh?,it`s only looked at it.

If i had done this and posted up that picture, the thread title would be,

   Am i  gormless or what?
