Hello

Does anyone have trouble finding reliable good staff? 

Last week i had two members of staff off work ill and now this week one girl is leaving to go back to full time clerical
work  as she needs more money and can't work full time cleaning as its too much for her!  Aaaaaggghhh

I now need to recruit again, but finding the right people prove hard every time.  I have eight members of staff and the girl who is leaving was brilliant and so finding another like her is going to be difficult.

Does anyone have any tips with recruiting?/

Today I feel like chucking it all in... I know we all have days like that but hit a big low now, have the work but need the high calibre staff!

I have tried many things over the past few years to recruit staff.

The problem is that NO-ONE wants a part time cleaning job. They do, however want the things that the money can bring.

I've called it elsewhere "selling the sizzle, not the sausage".

Here is an advert that has been very successful for me in the past. It's about to go out again now in local shops etc.

You can change it a bit for other occasions such as christmas (a bit late now) but it works equally as well.

Thanks CMS I think thats a good way to dangle a carrott! All people are interested in these days is the money!  Might try your advert in a few of the post offices and local shops near here.

I think this must be regional because everyone where I am wants a part time job. I posted a 2 line simple advert in the local paper on 2 occasions and got approx 160 calls on one and over 200 on the other (both were for just one job).

In fact we had to set up a mobile with a voice message on in the end as we couldn’t keep answering all the calls. No doubt a lot were rubbish but we filled the slots easily.

The worst scenario I ever had was when I had about 40 'David Lloyd Leisure' centres under my control. One of them was in weybridge and there wasn't a house for 10 miles that was worth less than a million quid! Neighbours included Cliff Richard etc.

Try recruiting locally for that one!!!!!

I can't get good, reliable, hard working staff for love nor money! I made the mistake of taking on someone who was ONLY in the job for the money, lasted 3 weeks, earned what she needed then buggered off! She was rubbish, despite good references! Now I only take on people who like to clean. To them it's an added bonus to be earning a wage from something they enjoy doing!!

i love my staff, they have no initiative, they think they Know better than you do,, they think the company vehicle is their personal taxi, and they think that we are doing them a huge favour.

but when we are up against it, and we lay it on the line they work hard.

we have our maddest period now through to the 23rd december, and without the staff i have we couldn't deliver the service.

Remember they are only interested in their pay packet, sometimes you have to spell it out quite brutally, WE LOSE THIS CLIENT THEN YOU ALL LOSE YOUR JOBS, no clients no work.  IT AINT ROCKET SCIENCE

that sometimes work.

but staff manaagement is also a major factor in them performing.

so perhaps we should all just sit and think for a minute, if they all leave, or if fire all of them WHO LOSES THE MOST???  I know the answer to that question.

I too struggle wih staff (as you can see by my recent posts). You think you have a good one and they turn out to be terrible. I have tried all ways to get them to do a good job. I've tried being nice but then they seem to walk all over me and I have tried being nice but firm and then they just leave. The balance I have yet to find!!!!
