Country Hotel Quote.
« on: November 05, 2005, 09:38:33 am »
Earlier this week I was invited  by phone to put a quote in for a large country hotel.
The manager told me that they were to get  quotes from three different companies.
Well to cut a long story short, I was the second company to go and they were just waiting for the third before they made a decision.
The manager took me around the place and told we what he wanted doing.
There was a nice sized ornate pond with a fountain in the corner, he asked me what chemical I would be using around around the pond.
I asked if there was fish in it, he told me that there was only orange bellied newts.
I know these are endangered so I told him point blank no chemicals around the pond area.
He went on to tell me that the flag work around the pond needed chemicals to bring it clean.
Pressure and  steam and no dead newts or I leave the area alone.
I gave him the quote and left.
This morning I got a call from the manager, he said all the quotes were within a hundred pounds of each other.
But I was the only company who expressed a concern about the newts.
I am going back up this morning to discuss the job further and to give a demo, with a view of starting the job on monday and finish no later than tuesday.
It just goes to show what you can achieve when you consider the effects that chemical can have on the local habitat.

hi there,

morning ,

i think it demonstrates more than that, it demonstrates that operators that know what they are doing, and carry out  there business in a professional manner, will always be successful.

even if you dont have the answer to a clients quesstion, you must always show absolute confidence in yourself, and therefore show the client that you mean business.

so good luck

regards

martin

Well done..............

I agree with what Martin says but I will go further than that.

I also think it's perfectly OK to admit to a Client that you don't know the answer to his question and to tell him you will come back with the correct answer.

He will respect you for that. In most cases a Client can spot bulls**t from miles away.

Cheers for that, I agree its always good for business to look and sound professional.
I went up this morning and cleaned a small half moon doorway area.
The guy was over the moon with the results and that ive got the job and I start at 8.30 monday morning, he also told me that they have a 30 bedroom hotel in Blackpool that they may want some exterior cleaning done in the very near future.
To round the day off nicely I have also been told that I have now become accepted as the new sub contractor for a big building maintenance company who maintain property for a huge housing association in the area.
So it looks like thing are on the up.

Cheers for that Malky.
It just goes to show what can happen if you stick in there.
Four months ago I was skint and scratting around for work not knowing where the next pound was coming from.
I nearly packed it all in and sold the lot to a cash buyer.
I advertised, posted leaflets, knocked on doors.
I gave out 3500 flyers, out of 500 business cards I have about twenty left.
But the best advertising has been word of mouth.
I just hope it continues.
Figers crossed.

Good on ya Preston Powerblast, I think its brilliant that you take a concern in the local wildlife, so to speak, but I also think it is fantastic that the managers have also taken that on board, as they obviously hadn't considered it before you mentioned it!!
