next few years gonna be really grim
« on: October 13, 2011, 09:18:35 pm »
the economy is a busted flush and it is going to affect all of us in some way or another. As people lose jobs the windows is one thing that will be cut ASAP. All i am hearing just now is peoples hours being cut and folks losing their jobs.

quite scary hearing this from people close to you and then hearing it from customers all over the place.

JSMC i have noticed that 9 times out of 10 your posts are pretty doom and gloom in general and that was before a lot of the cuts!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

its true ive noticed a few customers cutting back and ive lost the odd job here and there but im also picking up more work which is normal.

im not a pessimist by nature so i always look on the bright side!!

my advice would be to stop watching the news and concentrate on providing the best service possible for a fair price.remember also if you have a downbeat attitude your customers will pick up on it.it could also stop you from putting up prices and creating a better more profitable round for yourself.

im quite sure most customers will be fine especially if your not one of the fortnightly brigade and you have plenty of varied work thats priced fairly.

maybe go and canvass some more work for every house you lose then the lost customers wont bother you!!

best wishes

People were saying this on here 3 years ago, before that they were moaning about the Poles taking over every window cleaning round in the country, then ladders were going to be banned, before that we were going to have a hose-pipe ban, at some time everyone was going to be put on a meter and pay commercial rates, someone's going to say we're in for a hard winter before long, you wait.

The biggest reason for losing customers for me by far is people moving house, the silver lining to the economic crisis is that people ar'nt moving, ;D

Cheer up,we are half way through October and still no snow!
Be optimistic! If we closed the borders and never joined the eu! There would be very little unemployment and cutbacks!
Takings off all first cleans till march 7th 2014
October  total=  cleaned  extra per month
November = cleaned extra per month
Total £  so far.

We havent had that big an increase, but have only lost 4 customers this past 3 years directly down to recession tightening cut backs.  And thats with me regularly offering to stop going or decrease frequency!!  :o  Would never make a salesman, me!

On the other hand in that time we have picked up probably well over 25/30 new, more profitable customers.

Our main causes are for loosing customers are in descending order:

Death                  50%
Moving                45%
Other excuse        3% *

But as has been said, do a good job, be friendly, and wont do too bad, for some reason having clean windows seems to be high up on their list of priorities still!
