Re: Any articles/facts on WFP deteriorating wooden frames & sills

Have been going 5 years now and most window frames here in The Netherlands are double glazed units in wooden frames...and to be honest I have not observed any super fast rotting of frames but what I would say is that not all paint is good paint...even when freshly applied.

Cheers
Dave.

Indeed, good preperation of surfaces before painting is so important. I'd incredibly obvious wether it's been painted properly or not. The badly prepared ones go flaky in the space of half a year, or less! Well painted ones last much longer.

Great response people. I only asked as two of my customers in the same day were concerned. One was having her frames painted and repaired where they'd rotted. The dear painter has told my customer that it's down to the method of window cleaning. So now she is asking me to trad the whole house. This is an Old Rectory and is HUGE!!
She is one of my first and best customers so I have agreed to do it at extra cost.

But I did say it rains more than I visit and the house is rather exposed on a hill surrounded by trees. It's always damp almost all year round.

One of those things I guess.  I will accommodate her on this but I'm not happy with the painter ha!
