Sounds like the igniter is wet or faulty try drying it with a hair dryer.

make sure the gas bottle is standing upright, and not laying on its side.

Does it make a difference? Only forklifts have them on their sides.

yes, i thought the same, but the liquid gas is designed to always be below the valve, so only the vapour comes out, i learned this a few weeks ago when i had the same prob with my hotwash. I made a reinforced box (strong enough to carry bullion in) 4 a 6kg propane 2 lay in, on top of my tank, but the liqiud gas AND the vapour was trying 2 get out of the valve causing a frost and gas leak - i called calor and they told they are made to be upright only, even in transport. They also told me the forklift type have a different valve system and are desiged to be on there side, and i think he said they only come in the big 19kg bottles.
