Hi Vin just been looking at your pics just a couple of points for you.

A. Have you sealed around the edge of the floor with silicone don't want any water getting under there.

B. The amount of pressure that is going to be put on those copper fixings when you reel in the hose, I don't think  they will be substantial enough. As well as the hose rolling around the reel you also have the drag of the hose & the occassional snag up. I would have bolted through the floor using a metal plate & some stronger brackets.

I wouldn't like you to get giong & a few days later whoops!

I hope you don't think I am being a bit of a downer.

Regards

Thanks all, lots of useful stuff there.

As a tester, I'm just going to mount the reels onto a large sheet of 1" plywood that I'll tack dwon into the van.  Its weight should hold it steady.  Provided I like it there, I'll do something more permanent when I'm not so stupidly busy.  It means I can mess about with the layout as well and decide if I need the van ports or not.

Thanks again,

Vin

Don't come on here very often anymore, but it seems like this topic keeps resurfacing. My solution was this, IMO there is no better way around it. Sure it requires cutting a hole in the floor, but that is no problem whatsoever, even if you would sell the van, just cover it. No water from the rain ever comes in either. Little bit more road noise, but not too bad. Just need to mount the winch guide properly.

Tweaked here and there but been using this for ages now, wouldn't be anywhere without it. For the last ~2,5 years I've never had the reel out of the van.
Got Gardiners new lightweight reel with 6mm microbore and I've got major backlash if I don't gradually slow it down, it rolls off that easily. Reels in effortlessly. Safes so much energy and time. Get the pole out, start walking.

Needs new rollers on the cabinet mount, needs ideally metal ones made up. The surface of the winch guide rollers looks a little worse for wear, but the plastic bearings are holding up just fine. Needed some ballbearing grease to stop some vibrating noise. Also upgraded the reel clamps for lockable clips that screwfix sells. Other then that it's working brilliantly still.

Yes that's far better than mine tim, did you first try the gardiners roller in your rear bumper , or did you opt for the one fitted now first?

Yea I had that from the beginning, you have more pulling power with those big rollers. :)
