Might be too big
« on: August 04, 2011, 06:15:20 pm »
Quoted on a 7 thou + sq foot job today, thinking 2 days,on me own,mix of bonnet and extraction.
It was a bit daunting looking at the place,as it was so big.
Need to keep working.

Mark,
It is important not to think too much about the size of the job. It's best to break it down into manageable bites so that you are only focused on what you are trying to achieve in a day, or part of a day. Often the first few hours of a biggish job are the most challenging because looking at a job for quotation purposes is totally different to actually doing it. So the first few hours let's you know how best to do the job and what it will take to get the carpet clean. You also have to get the price right  ;)

Mark,
You'll be lucky if you get it on day rate unless you're the only one quoting. Most people want to know exactly how much it is going to cost.

agree with simon   unlikely to get a day rate if this is your first dealings with the client they will want to know how much for complete job. so make sure you accurately guestimate how long it will take you

That amount of work (roughly 700mē) is equivalent area to an average primary school.  I've knocked out jobs like that in 2 days on my own, TM and RX-20, without breaking much of a sweat.  That's the full monty as well - pre-spray, scrub with rotary and then extract.

Good luck completing within 2 days with a portable ???

I remember the last big job I did with a portable was about 850mē, took 4 days and nearly killed me.  I cancelled my Friday jobs and slept in till lunchtime!

Presumably with a 3ft wide vacuum cleaner and a 36" rotary?!!

Or is that two people working?

I bonnet cleaned 230m today in 4 hours on my own, and was going at a fair old pace with a 19" machine!

Hi Mark,

I don't see how the job may be too big, unless the potential client requires the job completing in one day and you've got no staff/subbies?

haha not taking the p mate just saying what i do using dry fusion 1 pad can do 20sq mtrs give n take throwing 85 degrees of heat out at the same time you don't stay in the same place for too long. You work north to south east to west go over a couple of times then move on JOB DONE maybe a bit of spotting.

Best Regards Phil.

Ah welcome back Simon, wondered where you'd been hiding!

Actually the penalty has changed in recent times.  I lock you in a room and talk to you for 8 hours straight, forcing you to take notes 8)

Phillip I'm not doubting you at all, just amazed at your productivity!  Like I said, I managed about 60m/hour today, it was very soiled but even so I thought I got it done reasonably quickly!

Maybe I will make that call...... :)

By my calculations this would be about 17 hours work.
Good luck trying to get that done properly in 2 days unless you have at least 2 helpers.

They are not bothered as long as it's not longer than 6 days,as they are not using the place ,it's council run,so 3 quotes will be tendered.I can manage that on my own in 2 days,I work methodically, and am reasonably well organised..

Why work on your own? Get a helper and the time saved can be used on other jobs
