arrrgh how frustrating does it have to be to get prices right. Been reading a few posts on here and i see some jobs i think would be £15 and there being charged £8 then some jobs that i would say are £10 people are charging £20. Quoted a church today was a modern church with pvc windows there were 2 bay windows like youd see on a house and 6 other windows  and 2 patio like doors all ground floor and i said to the guy £18 and he said he had a quote for £6! propper frustrating the variations in price in just one town!!!

yes a north south divide has a big dif in prices but cost of living is also dif on the divide.

They are right. Charge what you think you need to do the job properly. You'll get huge price differences because some other person has made a mistake, or cuts corners to finish the job faster because they priced too low.
It wont happen overnight, like anything worth learning, it takes time and practice. If it was that easy, anyone could build a successful round. This is what sorts out the winners from the "Also ran's" .

I'm all for charge what you want for the job etc,  but if you are pricing up work and not getting it then perhaps you need to look at your price structure, never mind what people on this forum say they charge, its you who will hopefully do the job, so price it for how long you think it will take not for what you think somebody on here might charge.


Look at the prices for this work and you will see about different prices, look at the differences on this job, who's right who's wrong, I dont know but its just an example.

As for your quote of £18 for what sounds like no more than 10 minutes work, I would say the guy quoting £6 was nearer the mark, I wouldn't do it for £6 perhaps about a tenner but thats just my opinion.

That's how I price on a normal job - works for me and is always pretty accurate.  On a large job I will reduce the price per window as I take into account the fact that I don't have to move and the work is all in one place etc.

What service do you offer?
Just glass?
Glass and frames?
Glass, frames and sills.
Do you include wiping down ordinary doors and surrounds.

To get tip top prices, you will have to be different from others.

What you quoted for this one does sound a bit top heavy, even here in the rich south £15 would be a good price here, may have been able to push £18, by including "all" as above on every clean and smiling a lot

A good tip is when you give a price and the custie thinks its a bit high, you can always back track and say well that is for the first clean only and after that every clean will be £.... ( take a third off for the future cleans).

Just think though what you would feel like if he had gone for £18.00......so keep going.

Why not clean your own (properly including all frames sills etc) don't rush, go at a sustainable speed and time yourself. This will give you a good idea of how long new jobs will take, so when you quote it will be easier to work out what the hourly rate will be.
Also while you are relatively slow, time yourself in the same way at custies houses. Each time you clean it will get faster and that will motivate you

yeah i noticed i mean we started off with what we thought we good prices but now realise that they were low! its good i came on here got some great infor. The £18 i quoted for the church was for ins and outs. Ive noticed that people outside nuneaton seen to be willing to pay more then in the nuneaton area. Had one old boy today who was adament he gets his windows cleaned for £1.50

i just laugh and walk off and say "ok thanks for your time" when i here silly prices like that!

i clean a big church once every 6 months up north.i charge them £80 and it takes me 2 hours as i stretch it out a bit usually with a 10 min coffee and chat with them.

you can get some good prices for work but you have to be thorough and good.dont cut corners and be confident!!

area,frequency all have a bearing on price.on some of my work im charging 3 times what some other window cleaners are charging nearby but i do a better more thorough job on a longer frequency usually.

being friendly and approachable with a good honest reputation will pay dividends over time.

wash doors/frames and sills down on all your work.do what you say your gonna do and charge what YOU think is a fair price for the job.not what other window cleaners are charging.
