is this a good deal?
« on: July 01, 2011, 01:51:04 pm »
can get alot of work from a large company who will need me on a as and when needed basis. They pay £170 day rate and 30p per mile travelling. i`ve done two jobs for them which took 5hours each. they pay this same day rate even if the job takes an hour or 8 hours. Any thoughts would be appreciated

thank steve

If I've read this right they pay £170 as a day rate plus travel.

You have done 2 five hour jobs for them @ £170 each so providing they don't the mick with payment times I don't know what you need anybody elses thoughts for!

Your welcome to provide them with my details!

i just thought i`d ask because i`ve seen posts on here from people saying they wouldn`t get out of bed for less than £250 per day.
I got the job as the previous window cleaner was not happy with that rate. And yes they paid by cheque the moment i gave the invoice to them at their local office

if you are happy with that rate that is all that matters, if you build up your own work that doing their work would lose you money then no don't do it, but it seems fair enough to me, but I don't pretend to earn 250 a day, I am sure plenty do though

Don't believe all the bull s**t you read on hear about how much people earn. To clear £250.00 after all expenses you would have to be turning over at least £50 per hour. Pinch of salt ect.
£170 a day is good money with your travelling paid

Yeah i'd be happy with that... swings and roundabouts on the time, but works well by the sounds of it :)

This forum makes me laugh, folk saying they wouldn't get out of bed for under £250 then they get a bad winter and all of a sudden there going to the wall and needing to lay folk off,if u think £170 is good then do it,why not stick it in separate account save it up then buy work with it and then u can decide if u need the subby work,

sounds good if you havent got enough work but i can hit that(£170) most days with work i have now.sometimes more!and yes i have hit £250 a day some days but they are very few and far between as i tend to knock off around 3 or 4 pm these days to allow time for filling up etc.

there are a few days where i have no work at the end of a good month but i prefer to relax and enjoy myself and get ready for the next months onslaught!! ;) ;D ;D.

i dont want to be working flat out every month as i feel that the job would get me down more often.also its nice to be able to have some breathing space for bad weather, hols or low motivational days.

if your happy with the arrangement then go for it.

best wishes

Could the work be done on a weekend so not effecting your current work? Then it is a bonus in my eyes.

Not a bad rate,

BUT in my opinion its better to have your own work than rely on someone else, who could take it away just as fast.

That sounds fair enough to me.  Sure it's possible to turn over more than £170 in a day (especially with WFP).  It's also possible to earn less if the motivation isn't doing so well.  The mileage sounds like it will cover the diesel plus some change - depending what you drive.  The last time I measured it I was doing 25 - 28 to the gallon.  For easy numbers say 25 to the gallon at £6.50 per gallon = 26p per mile.
I rarely work on a day rate but I have a local job that comes up sometimes where I do a day (as part of a team) for £180.  That is usually a very hard day though - a harder day than I would normally do if left to my own devices.  Two of the three have been like that.  One was easier.
So I think £170 for a day (especially if it's not always a full day) plus diesel, is a fair deal.

Surely it's a no brainer as we can all find competent workers to work for a £100 a day so I'd take everything they threw at me providing they pay promptly.
