ive now decided to not rush in and buy a tank and hosereel.i have a pretty full workload at present and my girlfriend is going in hospital tomorrow morning.she s going to need my help more than ever especially over the next few weeks or so.

im planning on getting one after ive got around all my work again(about 4 weeks time).

im now thinking i should sell my trolley and buy a pumpbox and plug it into cig lighter in van(can you do that?).i want to be able to easily disconnect the pump to bring it inside on freezing nights in winter.

so keeping it nice and simple.any work that requires a trolley or is really hard to access with the van mount will be dumped.

here what im thinking of buying.


350L flat tank and ratchet straps

pumpbox to plug into cig lighter/or leisure battery

100m of microbore/metal hosereel.

there is nowt wrong with the battery/pump/varistream on my trolley so if i could take these off i could use these somehow but i dont know whether id end up breaking them messing about!!

any help would be appreciated lads.

Hi Daz,

I did the same (went from trolley to van mount). To save money a connected the trolley to the tank in the back of the van. I can remove trolley if needed.  Takes up as bit more room but works fine.

hedgehog i was thinking the same but ive only got a small kangoo(625kg payload) and i thought it might take up too much room.im sure there would be room for it.i just dont see me using the trolley again ever once i have a tank in the back!!!

do you have a problem with airlocks?and what size tank/type(eg layflat/upright)?

just buy a pump and varistream daz, get both for 140 on ebay, and then a battery will be 60 - 80 quid, second hand reel and tank, sorted , or use your trolley

dont buy pumpbox - waste of money i just did it Its to overpriced 200 gets you what you need you end up paying 80 + to have it in a box, and usually they come without a controller or battery

Daz, there should be no problems at all in removing your pump and flow controller from your trolley and fit them inside your van.  You could also fit them inside a plastic box and - with some DIY skills - fashion it into something you can take out overnight and plug back in, in the morning - for those extra cold Winter nights.

I plan to do something like this later in the year.

A backpack would be handy though; maybe.

I use a leisure battery, but I know lads do use the van battery, but plugging it into your cig socket won't work, because to get power you will have to have the ignition on all the time, and I don't think that's good for your electrics?

I only have an Astravan.  I use a flat tank. Got no problems with airlocks.

I intend to dismantle the trolley but haven't got round to it. It does take up a bit of room but apart from that works fine.

I have a 400 lay flat in a berlingo with a 1" to hozelock tap. My trolley sits in against the back doors and the pick up hose from the trolley that usually drops in the barrel simply connects to the tap with a hozelock on. Double male hozelock connector onto a piece of hose 4 ft long from the trolley outlet  into hozereel with microbore. If I want to use the trolley with barrels then it takes seconds to lift out. Also to charge up in garage or protect from frost.
I got the tank for no money but if I was buying one for your kangoo I would consider an upright infront of the wheel arches rather than putting other kit on top of the flat tank.
Don't break up your trolley and don't make it anymore complicated than it needs to be. As you already have all the bits trolley mounted save yourself the bother of fixing it all to the van sides. I can use this set up in my transporter instead in a matter of minutes. A few ratchet straps and I can change vans or just take a couple of barrels with the trolley for a one off.

sounds good spongebob although i have the 50L VERSION TROLLEY with 2 drop pipes for 2 barrels so i was thinking of just dropping them in the top lid of tank.if i get the flat tank then the drop pipes will easily reach the bottom thus less likely to get airlocks.

I looked at the inside of the streamline boxes, then priced up the components and would have been paying alot for the plastic box!

I bought a heavy duty storage box with a secure lid and buit my own for under half the price of the streamline box.

The battery is secured by a threaded bar running front to back in the box. the controller is fixed on the outside with a on off power switch which cuts the battery feed. The pump is screwed to a bit of ply which is screwed to the inside of the box. The internal  'plumbing' is in speedfit and copper pipe - I can disconnect in seconds to remove it from van.

make you mind up.

just get a shurflow pump mount it in a small home made wood box with controller.
the hoses unscrew from each side easily then bring it in.
you will need a shut off on your tank. and some quick release battery terminals.
but easy enough. and cheaper than a pump box.

and dazmond you can buy hozelock type connectors for the pump so it can be quickly removed on freezing nights, mine got frozen loads of times it still works now just dont try and get it to pump when its full of ice thats what wrecks them.

Hi Matey, There isnt any need to drop pipes into a 350 litre tank as someone already said have a tap on the side of the tank and use a hoselock to connect like you would do with your garden tap.
I would a single hose connecting.
 
Dropping pipes in and out of a tank would more likely give you airlocks, as I would assume you dropping these hoses through the large filler cap of the tank??

As for myself I like to keep things simple and practical for my works requirements.

NJ i have stated i have TWO DROP PIPES coming from my trolley.i would have to modify them into one pipe to fit the side tap on the tank!i want to be able to just take the pipes out of the tank to use the trolley on a few jobs!does anybody else just drop the pipe from their trolley into the filler cap?and if so does it work ok?
