Do you employ or sub-contract?
« on: April 26, 2011, 08:27:35 pm »
Those of you that are not running an operation with several staff - but say you have one or two others helping on a regular basis - do you employ or do you have them self employed?

What are the pros and cons?

i use subbys.which works ok.

just make sure correct contracts are drawn up between you and your contractors.and keep an eye on them.

i reckon this is where the problems could begin. Very wary of this.

i have a couple of people working for me on sub-contract  we went down this route for 2 reasons

1st - we got to a stage where i could not do all the work on the books BUT not enough to take on some1 full time.
using a reliable person on sub contract allowed us to train then give work on a daily basis and split new work as it comes in this has gone from strength to strength as they now do 2 days a week + the gutter clearing work and best of all big jobs that are hard work and used to be 3 or 4 hours are now shared and can be done a lot quicker and i not cream crackered !

2nd - just a case of keeping the accounts simple as sub con we just pay an invoice without the hassle of wages, employee's insurance holiday/sick pay etc....

As things progress we may take on staff...
