diploma in internet marketing
« on: April 24, 2011, 10:41:28 am »
i recently had a session with the local council run business support service and the lady i spoke to put me on to this site www.alison.com .  if your it skills are not too good like me then this could be the site for you.  for internet marketing click on the diploma courses icon and that will get you to the internet marketing course. courses are free and the diploma is probably worth nothing but the lessons are very easy to follow and whilst i have only just started it seems to be a course worth doing if you want to build your own website and maybe do a facebook business page. hope you find it interesting and maybe some of you more eperienced it guys could take a look at it and give us your opinions.

Everything you need to know is at your fingertips. The only thing to be wary of is the latest Gurus products reviewed by stooges/affiliates. What makes you think IM forums are any different. ;)

A diploma in internet marketing will be out of date by the time you get it and is simply a money spinner for colleges. Having said that generic marketing skills are never new simply re-invented for the time.
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

wynne i dont think anyone is expecting the diploma to be worth anything, but the course is free and it is of great value to inexperienced people such as myself as it gives practical lessons on website building and other web marketing techniques.

I understand what you are saying creighton and what's the harm in it if it's free.

You have something that's structured and can ask questions whereas on the internet you have to figure it out yourself and when you don't get something it takes longer to figure it out. However the advantages online are you can do it whenever you can fit it in and  you are not learning something that may already be obsolete.

Of course you can learn stuff online that's obsolete but you soon figure out how to differentiate and from then on you are always ahead of the game.

And the other approach, the one that most non carpet cleaning businesses tend to do is focus on the marketing and the cleaning and delegate all the techie stuff to someone else who has spent all those hours learning and will apply even more hours to your web marketing.

I'm amazed how many carpet cleaners have the time or the inclination to go down this route. I suspect it's because it's far more palatable than pushing leaflets through letterboxes. ;D
