Have just had a call from a lady in Romsey asking if I was a thermo pure window cleaner,  when I replied yes she then told me that some of my guys have been around her area while she was out and got her autistic.  daughter to sign a fixed term window cleaning contract.

the lady was quite distressed and very angry and had called the council, the police and the trading standards who have all said they will investigate.

she also told me the police gave her my number as they checked thermo pure on google and came up with me,

Ive told the lady it has absolutely nothing to do with me and that I have never cleaned in romsey nor do I intent do and that I am a sole trader and gave her my details so she could check herself as I'm about 40 miles away,  thankfully the lady believed me and said she would call the police and council and trading standards to explain its nothing to do with me.


I just want to say to anyone who's been using these tactics or using canvassing company's in that area that those tactics to get people to sign up are scummy and gives window cleaning a bad image,  they left no contact details but hopefully the police will catch up with them soon.   

the lady said her daughter said they were called thermo pure window cleaning,   now maybe the daughter got it mixed up and thats all she could remember but she is after all autistic. and certainly no match for one of these pushy foot in the door canvassers.

Ive asked the lady to keep me informed and I also told her I would post about it on the forums and maybe someone may just know who the people are.

The daughter signed a fixed term contract? Hopefully the mum will be in when they call to clean. If not they will have to leave some form of contact for payment, so hopefully they can be traced that way

not for me to question the lady on that matter mate,  I was more concerned that someone was going trying trade on my my company name.

I jsy assume that the daughter may be old enough to be left alone but not pressure ganged into something out of her control.

I'm Southampton based and there's a pikey white transit does the rounds in the area and the only logo it has on the outside is a thermopure logo on the back.  Could be them but there's no phone number or contact details on the van so I have no way of getting hold of them. I'll get the reg number and pass it on when I next see it.

All she has to do is to say "No" when the window cleaners turn up.  The window cleaners wouldn't know the daughter was autistic.  One of my customers has an autistic son, and I didn't know at first; though maybe his level of autism isn't that severe?

As for the 'contract', (which wouldn't be legally binding), maybe it was more of a statement of understanding?

In fact this whole thing could be quite innocent?  Maybe?

I agree this child could be late teens or early twentys, there are lots of famous people with autism that I had no idea until I looked up on the internet.

I think we are jumping the gun a bit they could be a perfectly legitimate business.

I think too much has been made of this.  It could well have been done in all innocence.  It's not valid anyway.  There must be contact details and the fact that there is a "cooling off" period should be made known to the possible customer.  All that should happen now is that the person contacts the salesperson and says they've changed their mind.  The big flaw being that they didn't leave those details.  It sounds odd to  me because they seem to have gone about this professionally in some ways but have omitted two basic things.
