Moving out of window cleaning.
« on: April 08, 2011, 08:33:34 pm »
I'm starting to move out of window cleaning into dog walking. I've found it is more profitable and less effort. four or five dogs per hour just for a walk in the park at £10 per dog. The dogs become real friends, not only with you but with each other. Its so easy.
I've started doing a walk each morning  before my window cleaning, and its every day. Looking to cut some of my less profitable cleans soon to get in a second walk mid morning before I start window cleaning.

Has anybody else tried this? Better than window cleaning and at £10 per dog per walk its literally money for old rope. Loads of customers, there are websites for dog walking , even people advertising for someone to walk their dogs. You can't go wrong. As long as you like dogs.

No offence but learn your lessons from window cleaning, you must have noticed the upsurge of new window cleaners the last couple of years....the reason? people shouting about the money we can earn. So any new ideas I have, Im keeping quiet. All the best though.

You wouldnt believe how people in my area do this, got loads of vans with cages in the back going to and from the downs, could only see the prices drop the more people do it,  but every house has windows, good luck

That is what I was thinking my dog hates all other male dogs, especially if he is on a lead which is rare

What figures, evidence and criteria do you have to prove this?

It strikes me as being just another unproven 'conspiracy theory' that gets aired on here and regurgitated every few weeks with no hard evidence to sustain it.

I don't know where this big squeeze is supposed to be. I've picked up loads of work since Jan. I see more Garden Tidy vans out there than window cleaners. I see Dog Walkers, Ironing service, Domestic Cleaning service mobile Dog groomers.

In the small village where I live, within a couple of hundred yards there are 5 hair and beauty salons.

Do you really think that the reason there are new WC's out there is because they heard about CIU and logged on? Then they heard about all the money they could earn, so went off and bought a van etc?

The next time you see a new WC, go and ask them if they are on CIU. On any one day, there are about 120 members online on here.21,000 members, but only 120 actually online. From those 120, about 50 post on here. You think this forum is responsible for new WC's out there?

Good luck with the new venture.
Are you thinking of completely replacing your window cleaning business or are you replacing the lower paying rounds?

Im in a similar position to you but im venturing into property. Im currently arranging finance to purchase a house and a mix use premises under my new business which will hopefully replace my window cleaning business in the long term.

Make sure you do the research and know every aspect of your business before you commit

I'm not replacing window cleaning but I wanted to get some of my time devoted to another business so that if for example we get hit by a hosepipe ban I'm not completely stuffed. Realistically I could get sick and not be able to work at anytime and my wife or son couldn't step into my shoes with the window cleaning but they could with the dog walking.

Also, I'm 57 now and and I'm not sure how much longer I want to go on window cleaning. Last winter was hard going, you are still out in the cold with dog walking but its only for an hour at a time.

However, having found this and seen how it operates for a while I have come to realise its less work than window cleaning and has more appeal,( maybe its just a change). The only trouble is you have to be where / when you say to  pick the dog up so its more disciplined which I've rather got out of the habit.
