Whats the Highest TDS you have used on the  windows? mine was checked mine today and it was pumping out at 13  windows still drying fine though. Give the DI bottle a good shake before and its gone back down to 0 so time to get some resin me thinks.

has anyone ever read the full technical papers from the companys that produce the resin?
sad to say past two weeks they have made interesting reading for me, and I have discovered ive been filling the bottles wrong ( acoring to them) yet I fill just the same as "I think" everyone.
who pre conditions there resin?
who back flushes?

I dont use resin any more.... my ro spits it out a 9-11ppm and its fine for cleaning... no complaints

Hi All.
well mixed bed resin as you know is a mix of Cation and Anion in a 1:1.5 mix
now cation resin is actually a water softener !
 how its done
2Na+R– + Ca2+ - Ca2+R–2 + 2Na+
2Na+R– + Mg2+ - Mg2+R–2 + 2Na+

and Anion is the stuff that exchanges the Anions ( cleans the water ish)
yet again how its done
2R+OH– + H2SO4 - R+2SO4 2– + 2H2O
R+OH– + HCl - R+Cl– + H2O

the only difference between the big boys and us is the size of our vessels and according to Dow and after a call to Thermax in India they pretty well confirm some things.

as for filling I like most just put it in and off we go, humm now I know I got it wrong
fill vessel 1/3 full with water ( pure water) and fill with resin slowly ensuring the water is kept above the top of the resin, the free-board should be 5% of the vessels volume. you can do this with or without the dip tube in there, screw it all together and allow to settle

it states it should be back-flushed slowly at this point at a rate of 3 x bed volume, flow rate is dependent on who made the resin.this should be done during the working life of the resin to get rid of the waste the resin collects. this however I feel can be done away with if you are using a RO, the only thing you would benefit from back-flushing then would be to loosen a compacted bed.

but I wont go into that due to the fact I dought anyone on here being able to get hold of sulfuric acid let alone hydrochloric acid.

what is classed as pure water?  water that contains less than 6PPM of solids is classed as pure this is however only relating to potable water (drinking) and for the purpose that it is used for on here pure should be 0 PPM so that you have a balanced molecule, or I should say near balanced as Dow actually produce resins to take it down to PPB ( parts per billion)

based on this if you have 0ppm its still dirty. "O" stuff it 0 is good enough for me...

I don't work with it above 5 though; I mean why risk it?

my tap water is around that reading, i.e 035ppm and trust me it looks ok when you clean and you may get away with it but it does leave a lot of spots when the sun shines

I take it you use RO or the resin would be wasted in no time...

yep ro and di need to buy a booster pump because i have heard of people getting much better tds after ro than me. (same ro and same tds from tap)

Yes a booster helps. went to get a 240 volt one and dam there expensive.
see if you can get this pump from b&q CB800GWPA
they are clearing them at £10
you need 2 1" to 3/4" basp reducers ( any plumbers shop) then you can fit hozelock to it
I use one and it runns 4 hours at a time no problem. dont know what presure it puts out but it doubled my water and its exiting ro @ 10
