Diesel pump on the 03 transit going kapputt on me on the motorway, cost me £850 for the pump and £200 for the tow :'(

I was in a simmilar situ as you, with all the work booked on, only advice I can offer is go and hire a van sharpish and transfer all your gear into it while the work is finished it will take the edge off the cost of the job and it's also tax deductable ;)

Then there's the gearbox problems, but that's another story alltogether...

Dazmond. A good quality cluch kit should cost no more than 80 to 100. Decent garage will charge 150.00 to 200 to fit it mate. Dont get ripped off.

I might have one in the brewing.  I started my 'new' van up this morning and it struggled to get going.  Once it goes it's fine, no problems, but I think the morning 'start up' may cause me problems.

Obviously the van must've already have been 'warmed up' before each test drive (I did two) I took it out for!  >:(

Any ideas anyone?

If its a diesel might just be that the glow plugs need changing.

Is it due a service? glow plugs?

I would give it a good blast out Tosh, take it up the road & thrash the nuts out of it in 3rd gear! ;)

Well the gearbox on my Trafic went at 39,000.  At the time the worst bit was that it was New Years Eve and I was miles from home in the middle of nowhere on the way to a music gig.  I did manage to bang it into gear eventually and get going in second.  The clutch went on it at 75,000 but that's not so unreasonable.  I'm surprised you didn't get any warning re the clutch on the way out.  I've replaced several clutches in different vehicles (I tend to keep vehicles a long time) and there has always been a gradual worsening of clutch slip so a fair bit of warning.
