Bad day canvassing
« on: April 03, 2011, 10:59:53 am »
I went canvassing on Friday, an area that I already have a few custys but could do with a few more to make up a day. I walked every street on the estate and knocked every door for over 5 hours without any success. This is the first time I have been canvassing and not got a single customer so I shouldn't feel too despondent, but it is a bit of a downer, anyone else had this experience?

That is unusual not to get a single customer.  However, that's a lot of doorknocking that you've eliminated for when you go canvassing again.  I've found that these things can go in patches.  I don't mean the "your patch, my patch" stuff either.

Mick, what times did you canvass on Friday ?

if during the day what % actually answered the door ?  or these how many had a w/c and how many did
you give a price for ?

As Paul has said it's unusual not to get a single bite - certainly for that amount of time but it can defo run in patches you may not get anything in a street or even 1 side of a street and get several in the very next road or as with me one side of it ( very strange! )

5 hours?? What are you saying when they answer the door? What are you wearing. How confident are you? Do you avoid eye contact etc?

Have they already got a window cleaner? Are they asking how much and then say no?

You need to give a few details mate. Otherwise, how will anyone  know what the problem could be?

i've had it sometimes. obviously best to reflect on what it might have been...  but nothing to worry about really.  just brush yourself off and get going again.  i had 3 days of canvassing and only got 1 client right at the end!  next week, new area and pick up 20 clients  :)

It was a strange day, there was a good 75-80% not in, of the others most said they already had a cleaner although looking at the windows they probably didn't. I quoted a couple but they didn't bite and one bloke asked me to quote for a big house at least 5 bed I quoted £15 which was probably too low and he said he gets them done for £3.50. I asked him what clown would do a house this size for that price but he wouldn't say, another person also told me someone was doing them for ridiculous prices in the area.  There are windys in the area and one in particular does a lot of the estate, which is Faverdale. I am well dressed and confident with my approach and I've never had a day like this one before but as a few of you have said, I'll just forget it and go at it again this coming week in a different area, thanks for your posts, Mike.

That's got to be a one off day mate.  As said, crack on and forget about it. That goes in the record book though!!
