Ian i have been going 10 yrs now and dont have the canvassing passion i had when i first started. i know you have bought a round but i am intrigued by the stats you and doc windows post in your signature lines, how is this achieved? web site? canvass? picking up work whilst out and about? i dont ever recall getting the amount of custys in one month as you and the doc seem to get. whats your secret?

I don't do lots of door knocking but do when i get chance,i mainly pick up work from word of mouth from leaflets and when out doing other jobs!
Im picking up some very good work recently but just missed out on a very big commercial contract due to my phone being on silent! gutted!
But ill pick myself up and get other work.Im just in the process of ordering 10000 leaflets double sided a6 and just ordered a guttervac which i know will get me more work, the driveway cleaning is getting busy too.
I have a trick up my sleeve to get new custys but is totally hush hush, lol
but by that i expect to pick up 10 to 20 custys every month from now till july!

Ian, well done, matey.  I started canvassing on Monday 8th March last year.  I didn't have the kit, I was just testing the water, so my first clean was on 7th May.  So, we've grown at roughly the same time.

I love the fact that people keep telling me that the economy/competition/Easterm Europeans/weather/cuts/fuel prices are all destroying the game.  It's interesting because in the time they have been saying that, we've grown from zero to 322 customers, currently coming in at a rate of two or three a day even while we're still ramping up this year's campaign.

Lessons learned:

1. Stick to window cleaning until you're big enough - gutter vac has ended up as just a distraction.  In five years we'll be glad we did it, but it's a pain for now.

2. Leaflets do work if you do them right (and in volume).  The business has been built on them.

3. Ignore the doom-mongers.  It's infectious.  Surround yourself with optimists.  I try not to read any post that looks like it's going to be a whinge.  Try it, it boosts your mood significantly.

4. Price is not the deciding factor.  People will pay for a good service.

Great news, Ian, and I look forward to next year's bulletin.

Vin

doctorwindows, looking at your figures at the bottom of your post
work, spend more on price not customer number count

i can get 300 new customers each month, wont be worth anything though
hope you see my point
good luck
