God damn hosereel
« on: March 24, 2011, 06:05:37 pm »
I purchased a new hosereel  from Pure Freedom and all I seem to do is untangle it from the side of the reel, its like the reel is too small for the microbore,it's 100 meters of 8mm hose and god damn it,I feel like cutting the hose in half to suit the reel, the microbore also looks thicker than the 8mm bore I used previously,if its not getting snagged in the sides of the reel ,the stupid thing is falling over >:(

I have 2 from purefreedom which are about 4 years old and they're great (though one has started to wobble and could probably do with the crank shaft replacing). These are mounted on a red hose reel which is quite sturdy.

I have another one which was supplied with a second system of about 3 years old. This one is on a blue mount and is a lot smaller and lighter. Only used it a couple of times and thought it was pants.

They definately need to go back to the red hose mounts if they're still supplying people with the blue ones, as they are of bmuch better quality.

I have the same one and it is rubbish unless the hose is wound on perfectly. Always getting caught on one side or the other. My technique for what it's worth, is to stay at the reel, pulling out maybe 15 meters of hose before walking away to the property. Bit of a pain but saves time.

Yeah, its the blue (free standing)....eh..........not one    ???,my last reel was from Cleaning Spot and I had it years, had a wider capacity and was a quality reel till some Pikey stole it last Sunday week when I took everything from the van to drive to the tip, left it in the front drive with buckets etc.

We have one, and suffer exactly the same problems. I mentioned this at the time of buying as I thought they may have sent me a 60m reel with 100m of hose.

The balance is all wrong with 100m on it, as we used to use freestanding, but got fed up with it wobbling and bouncing down the road, breaking the brass fitting off the thread/knocking it so it leaks everywhere, we now have gone to fixed reels as replacing the axle every month or so was getting ridiculous.

The hose itself is awful too, we use hot, and the hose loops up where it is connected to the reel, even though it hasn't been unwound anywhere near maximum, causing kinks, and unbelievable tangles.

Hate it with a passion, and even when we revert back to cold, it has some extremely odd behaviour where it not only falls off the reel, it loosens off and bunches up...

To say I hate it with a passion is an understatement.

Oh, also need to mention it is EXTREMELY stiff to reel in and out, so had to lube up where the axle goes through the reel, which has helped.

Not up for the job at all, which is something I am finding extremely frustrating about this industry, equipment that simply is not made for the job. Seem to spend half my day getting soaking wet from various things popping off, pole clamps coming apart, pumps packing up, etc etc.

Grrrrr!!

I need to replace one of mine.

Has anybody got a freestanding 6mm reel from cleaning spot and how do they rate them?

I used a £25 Hozelock reel everyday for over 6 years! Never let me down either. I retired it last year & bought another Hozelock one. ;)

Yep, go on, fire away! ::) ;D

Most mini bore (8mm) these days has a 12.5/13mm OD which is too big IMO. Heavy, bulky & too thick for 100m on a reel. I had some from cleantech which had 11mm OD, it was superb!

These below advertise 8mm hose with 11mm OD, I emailed them to confirm it but had no reply. I'm going to ring them to find out for sure as my current mini bore is (like yours by the sounds) TOO BIG!

If this is right, it's the business! Like micro bore outer but still 8mm inner. ;)

Four years ago I fished a hozelock reel out of a skip. It takes 50mtrs of minibore.

It gets used everyday, and all I need to do to it is replace the rubber o ring now and then.

 :D :D
if it is dirty it is fair game

Mine was all over the place , detangling hose everywhere and the reel always falling over. I've since screwed it to rear of my van floor and I must say it's much easier to operate, I'll post some pics tomorrow
