starting to think my clx isnt good enough ....
« on: March 04, 2011, 08:18:16 pm »
just want to make it clear im in no way running down gardiners at all!

i got unlucky and had one of the ' dodgy batch ' rubbish glue and clamps fall off weekly.

just starting to think it not good enough for evert day use, week in, week out...

its a good light pole at a good price compared to other poles - but maybe its too cheap??!

and

is it really worth spending over double to get a slx??

IMO yes.

Superior pole. I've used one daily for 3 years with no problems at all. Lighter, more rigid & harder wearing. ;)

Don't worry, the clamps fall off the SLX and the SMAX just the same  ;D
Great poles, great clamps just poor glue.

To get your clamps to stay on forever-

remove them, clean both the end of pole section & inner clamp really well & remove any old glue.

Scour both these surfaces to get a good key for the adhesive. You need to scratch both surfaces, sand paper will do it or hacksaw blade.

Apply 2-part epoxy resin to both surfaces & fit back together, twisting a little as they go together.

Leave over night. ;)

The glue that Gardiners retail (2 part resin) is superb! I upgraded my MKI slx clamps to the latest ones about 12 to 18 months ago & followed their instructions to the word. Not one has moved a millimeter & they get some right hammer too! ;D

I have a clx. Am fed up with regluing a clamp every week or so. Ridiculous.

Wouldn't buy another. Although otherwise a fantastic pole. Harris poles have better clamps.

i don't know what some of you do with your poles, Ive had a older 30ft slx for some time had the extra section, then i got slx 22 over a year old and clx 18ft and a clx9ft and Ive never had a clamp un glue itself  ::)

always had problems with slx clamps since the mark1 til now.  dont know if the are up to
being worked hard day in day out, having to adjust clamps serveral times a day is a pain
and why can't they glue the clamps as well as there instructions say???
facelift poles are far better in terms of clamps and build quality pity they are not as light
as slx.
