New van for WFP...decisons, decisions!!!
« on: March 02, 2011, 02:35:01 pm »
Been looking around today for a new van to house my Pure Freedom 650l system.

All dealers have warned me off Vivaros/Trafic/Primastar pre 56/06 plates so now Im a bit un decided.

Can you have a 650l tank in a 230 Connect?

My budget is around 3-3.5k, but want to make a decent buy coz once the tanks in, I dont really want to be forking out for repairs, gearboxes or new engines.

Suggestions/comments please?

Cheers Lee, think I remember you posting pickies of your setup.

Whats the econmomy like, how does it run, ok?

Bit gutted as I wanted a bigger van, but if the connect does the job, I might as well save some cash

Im really happy with mine, fully loaded they are a little sluggish, but it does pull, but im sure most vans would be like that.

Economy wise is does 30-33mpg, which im quite happy with.

Is your tank an upright or flat tank?

If you want a bigger van have you considered a SWB Low roof transit?

Try a Ex bt van, all have low mileage and full service history. I have a friend who is a ford service manager who put me on to them. They have transits all are 300s, stay away from the vauxhall. you wont be able to buy a van older than 5 years old.
http://www.gvcvansdirect.co.uk/    http://www.btfleet.com/sales/cars-commercial-vehicles.aspx. My mate who is not biased and is commercial trained said you need reliability that is what transits deliver. The older ones are complete rust buckets.

There's nothing wrong with a 650 litre tank in a LWB Connect with a payload at 900kg as long as you don't fill it,its when you start putting alot of other stuff in that adds to the weight and can be easily over loaded with a full tank of 650 litres and reels plus fuel,it all adds up! :o

i would recommend a 4 year old fiat scudo, my payload is 900kgs so i dont know how a connect could be the same? i would check that out.

also i know if i had anything smaller i would struggle to fit all my equipment in.

here you go payload for connects

825 kg gross payload (T220), 625 kg (T200)

so even without adding your body weight, reels, poles, ro, spare wheel, fuel, etc, you would be over on one of the models. and on the bigger model youve only got 175kgs to play with

and i know im 20kgs over on my 2 man set up

one man in a 900kg 230 connect with 650 liters leaves 250kg. how is that over?
i understand the 2nd guy might make it over but if you have a full tank just get the guy to meet you on the 1st job via his own transport make it a big house so you have used 70 liters of water then you are ok.

Dont you guys aggree? its just im gona be gettin a 230.

Before it all kicks off..........im a one man setup with 650l, three poles, a bit of trad equipment, and a 100m hose reel.

Hope that helps stop any anti/pro Transit connect Lybia like confusion :D

There is also a t230 model which has a 900kg payload, people think because the van is small it wont have a very high payload, but it supprising that it does actually have a 900kg payload.

650ltrs of water + tank = 700kg (that's without any cage etc.)

Add to that-

Driver
Poles/brushes
Hose + reel
Ply lining
Fuel
Roof bars
Any trad gear
Ladders/step ladder
Cones/safety signs
RO/DI vessels
Tool box/spares

Basically. anything other than what the van left the factory with in standard form.

It'll be close! ;D

Payload are there to be used, whats the point of having a 900kg payload and only carrying 1 box in the back  ;D
