Self Rescue from Height
« on: February 22, 2011, 04:40:03 pm »
Hi all

Just a heads up on working at height, by law you have to have a rescue plan put in to place and this can no longer include the use of the fire brigade as a window cleaning company in Bristol found out when the recived the bill £30K

All the height teams at The Price Group had just been trained in self rescue when we had to put it in to action when a power suply failed in a cradle and the self lower had locked on,

If your working at height make sure your trained and that you have planned it well.

So I guess the building owners and or the Cradle maintenance firm would have had to take some responsibility as well?

I presume the cradle and tracks had current and up to date certs? so as far as the cleaners were concerned the access equipment was serviced and certified as safe to use?

National company but headquarters not in Bristol, wouldn't be OCS by any chance then?  :)

30k bill for lowering a cradle to the ground? that's shocking  :o I bet all they did was throw the trip switch to get it moving again  ;D

Not on this occasion, the building owners could not help the fact of a power failure, the cradle and equipment was all tested and in working order, the problem with the self lowering was most probably down to the fact of over loading common problem in the cradle industry.

The 30k was from the emergency services for the time on site and the rescue, this is the case now that you will be charged unless someone is in immediate danger our injured.
